I just want everyone who follows us to know that our social justice posts are not simply gone or that we don't post social justice anymore. We simply don't post it here. I just did a presentation in class and I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to recover from the after-anxiety of it or recovering from being in fight or flight for long periods of time. -CS
Hi there lovely!
First of all, congratulations on doing your presentation! I know how hard that can be when you have anxiety, or feel anxious about public speaking. The fact that you faced that fear is incredible! You should honestly be so so proud of yourself.
I think the first thing that might help you recover from the after-anxiety is to acknowledge the fact that you kicked anxiety’s butt today! Anxiety can be strong, but you are stronger. Take comfort in the fact that you fought through those feelings and you did your presentation.
I always find that some light exercise helps me to come down from an anxious state. My favourite thing to do is to go out for a walk! I know that this may not be possible depending on where you live, but long walks in the fresh air can really help your anxiety to reduce. This is probably the thing that helps me the most. Obviously some things work better for some than others, but I definitely recommend giving this a try!
Music is amazing, as it can focus your mind on something else, and it can create a calmer and more relaxing atmosphere. Whatever you decide to do, I definitely think that having some music on in the background is worth a try! It just sets a nice relaxing mood and can completely change your mind-set!
This might just be personal to me, but I thought I’d mention it anyway! It might come in handy to you, or someone else that’s reading this. I find a pamper evening so relaxing! Whether this means doing a facemask, having a bath, or even just doing my skincare, I really find that this relaxes me. I like to light some candles to set the mood, but that might just be me!
Keeping busy and putting your focus on something else might also really help! You could watch some TV shows, or go on YouTube, or talk to a friend/family member. We have a distractions page that might give you some more ideas? We also have a list of helpful websites that you could take a look at? Some of these are relaxing websites, and some of these are more for distraction.
Again, I am so proud of you! You did an amazing thing today, and you should be really proud of yourself. I know this after-anxiety feeling is awful, but it will pass. You’ll be okay.
Keep smiling and keep strong.
All the love,
Ellen x
