Amelia looked down at her hands for the hundredth time in the last hour, but still couldn’t bring herself to make a certain decision.
When Millenia arrived at Hogwarts, Amelia had felt that it was her duty to give her a word of welcome. She was a Slytherin, and her family wasn’t the type of people Amelia looked to be on good terms with, but she was still a new student joining during her fifth year and Amelia could only feel sympathetic for that.
But as the weeks dragged on, Amelia could never get the courage to approach her or the assurance that this was a good idea. Millenia looked every bit her brother’s sister, with her chin raised high in a constant haughty expression, and Amelia didn’t want her actions to be misinterpreted - she knew that these people’s minds didn’t work the same way as hers when it came to social interactions - and half the time she didn’t even want to bother trying to be nice to someone who most likely wasn’t worth it. She wasn’t a fan of judging people, but it was very hard to disregard Millennia's background.
She made her final decision during the Christmas vacations. It was the perfect time to make an objective decision, as Millennia's behavior couldn’t sway her away from her duty as both a prefect and a student in the same year as the new girl. Besides, it was gift-giving season, the perfect opportunity to give a welcoming gesture without it seeming too odd.
She decided to give the gift in person, after the first class she had in common with the Slytherins - a decision she was regretting now that it was time to act on it. Knowing that the faster she got this over with the better, she marched to the blonde’s table as soon as the class was dismissed.
“Hi, I’m Amelia Bones, the fifth year Ravenclaw prefect. I just want to give you this, consider it a late welcoming gift. If you ever need anything, I’m always disposed to help, “ she stated, realizing how rehearsed she probably sounded.
