Oh my god I think I’m the only person in this system with a working fear response
Really gets in the way of my research actually, but I’ve already got folks in here who want to… Leech, some of the fear from me? To feel it for themselves?
Either way I can ignore it just fine, but I don’t think any of us have felt anything like this in ages
This is really interesting actually, I had forgotten how all-consuming it can be, really snaps you out of complacency
Electrified mist crackled in waves across a vast, barren wasteland, engulfing the scrawny man that stumbled and scavenged within, nearly swallowing him whole. Small pieces of metal were shifting around him in patterns, like lively schools of fish—If the fish were springs, bearings, and miscellaneous scrap metal.’
FIRE beginning!!
EEEEE YOU LIKE,,, YOU LIKE MY CONCEPTS!!! (the storm was Penrose’s, but I wrote that opening :00000000000)
we Shall be replying to these eeeeeeheeheheheheh -Rust
Yes indeed! I believe the way that Pen had layed it out was… Hmm. They wrote it down somewhere. -Tetley
I couldn’t find exactly the explanation I had used (Tetley has summoned me, it seems), but essentially the failed recolonization of this planet (more on that below) has lead to two very crucial things:
Severe disturbances in the magnetic field
Higher buildup of electricity in clouds and mist
And, electricity plays a very big role in magnetism (obvious, I know, next I’m going to tell you that water can hydrate something) but what this essentially has done combined with the disturbances in the magnetic field, mostly the magnetic field, is it has allowed these electrical storms (dubbed “magnetic storms” by the locals, due to their effects) to pick up small and even medium-sized pieces of metal (and, when the electricity is comorbid) magnetize some otherwise nonmagnetic alloys
It doesn’t make much sense in the grand scheme of things, but I don’t have any kind of degree in science, I just come up with concepts for fun.
(Another note for you! Some more storms that come comorbid with these kinds of weather conditions are ball lightning, which already exists in the real world for different reasons, low-hanging aurora boraealis (very, very dangerous to walk through, do Not™), and pockets of more mild electrified mist that can cause your hair to stand on end, disturbances in psyche, and malfunctions in electronics)
Thank you kindly!!! The majority of us really enjoy the style of character introduction where you gradually glean information about their presentation as it comes up (ex: you find out a character has long hair when it gets caught on brambles, you find out the character has the ears of a cat because they perk up to hear better when they’re eavesdropping)
Really adds interest in the character appearance as a whole, and leaves a lot up to interpretation which a lot of us find to be very fun :) -Penrose
Yes!! I forget who wrote that in, but they had a chuckle. It starts with a C as well, so he would still have been “Rust C. Moores” :)
The nickname pookie has been entertaining and endearing for us all :))) feel free! As for the questions: -Penrose
He is a rather egotistical amateur engineer and scavenger, who sells his services to various folks in various colonies, mostly those who need supplies because his shoddy engineering work is proudly displayed in that which he drives in, his poor car Contraption. It begs him for death every day and night, but Rust doesn’t speak in break screeches (And even if he did, he wouldn’t listen.) . -Luni (seperate yet the same as the one you are/will be familiar with. As always, system relations are terribly complicated. I’m sure Tetley will end up telling you the full story at some point. /gen)(Fear not, the Rust you have spoken to is not the one from this story.) .
He was in training as an engineer, and one of the things that his training included was being sent out to observe the (re)colonization of an old, failed pet project of a planet. (We can very much see how well that went) He almost got kicked out of engineering school on multiple occasions, but bribed his way back in. Everything else, I believe, is answered above. /gen .
Graves is their last name, this is actually Luni, who in this universe happens to be experimenting with they/them. (Count on her (she/they) to be in denial in Leafton) (Leytown is an accepting environment, though, so they finally do end up being the she/they she wants to be) . As for all of this, I do believe an explanation is due. This planet was Earth. More specifically, this planet was an alternate version of Earth, as there are multiple universes in which an “Earth-like” planet exists. It is the closest to our earth. It was destroyed entirely by man-made circumstance. . The second attempt at making it habitable has gone almost as catastrophically as the first, though much, much faster. Some things are a sunk cost. Trust large corporations, once again, to pretend that they know what they are talking about to glean a larger payout. (Can you taste the bitterness in my words? /lh) .
Any manufactories that may have existed on that planet have long-since destroyed themselves, and resources are short given the majority rest of the world is treating this planet as an abandoned project. Graves (Rust calls them by their last name because they refuse to be called by their first, formalities) has been trying to co-run a colony in their own attempt to keep remaining survivors alive. . They need the supplies for both fortifications on half-built structures, and to continue constructing the broadcasting pylon that they believe may help them get into contact with any other colonies remaining in The Wastes, there are people they know that they refuse to believe are dead (Because of competence, definitely because of competence and not because they are close. They are capable of carrying on if they are dead, that much they are certain of. /sar) . (As for a screw shortage, Rust is going to have one if his get any looser. /lhj). .
A natural occurrence, technically. As explained above /gen. And thank you! We have enjoyed writing it thus far. I will not speak any longer for I have already given you much to read, but it is quite nice talking on this. -Luni
