Hand to my heart. I just want to see the man smile. Really smile. I want to see the way his eyes light up when he's really happy. I want his heart to find peace, I want his soul to rest. I want him to finally hang up the sword for good and allow himself to live.

He listens without interruption. ... Then he looks away, but manages a smirk that's almost as bitter as the chuckle that goes along with it.
"You're outta luck, bub. Tried that before. It didn't go so well."
It's an understatement. He had spent over a century trying to escape what he was. Tried in Canada, in Japan, in America. Anywhere he could find quiet. And because of that selfishness, he carried a graveyard on his shoulders.
Elizabeth. Rose. Silver. David. Itsu. Mariko.
The child he never got to name.
All of them had fallen victim to the curse that was Logan Howlett - to say nothing of how many people had fallen to his claws. Those that survived were the ones who'd realized early, cast him aside before he could drag them down. The ones who'd clued in. The smart ones. And he, over time, had smartened up too. He's a rabid dog, a wolf in sheep's clothing. A killer. A weapon. The weapon.
But that's okay.
(It has to be okay. It's not like there's any way out.)
He was good at it.
(He should know.)
He was really, really good at it.
(He'd tried.)
He was the best. And he was always gonna be the best. So the right thing to do was put those talents to use. At least now, he could tell himself it was for the right reasons. He could pretend he slept at night.
