watched the first episode of the show with the parents, and got talking about the Deep Tolkien Lore™ with mum afterwards. was telling her about my favourite faction in the silmarillion, galadriel’s evil mafia cousins, and mentioned that i didn’t think they were likely to show up on account of them all being dead by this point, ‘except for that one guy on the beach,’ to which my mum replied ‘what, sipping piña coladas and taking it easy?’ and on further thought we don’t really know that’s not what he’s doing, do we
#amazopocalypse#rings of power#maglor#as for the show itself?#... eh it's fine#seen worse. doesn't seem to want to do anything too interesting with the material but i've seen worse#every time they dangled a nugget of the deeper lore in front of me like a member berry i just got more annoyed than anything else#almost none of the first age elf drama is being represented at all#which >:(#way to show the casual audience that tolkien's elves are just as boring as the popular narrative would have it#also please stop actively leaning into valinor-as-an-aryan-wonderland/uncritical-acceptance-of-the-old-man's-colonialist-tendencies#having a few black elves here and there doesn't really help with the undertones#also if you can't use the real names of 'galadriel's brother' and 'the high king' just make some new ones up ffs#he didn't get eaten by werewolves i already don't think it's finrod#... did like the stone age protohobbits though#not sure why they're calling em harfoots but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
