you can read more about his Sans aka Pol (Polaris) and their general backstory here - the long and short of it is that alongside his brother, Papyrus works as a sentry and in particular is in charge of the puzzle field that protects and impedes the way to the old Landing Ruins, now abandoned with the dome sealed off.
more often than not, beyond puzzle making and recalibrating, Apollo’s days are spent heading off or causing Japes™ with his brother, occasionally rescuing monsters who’ve strayed too far from the light gravity fields in search of old tech junk in the planet’s ring to repurpose, and on the rare quiet day, reading and rereading the stories of their people and imaginary worlds that he’s collected over the years.
his boots and gloves have actually been hand-upgraded by his brother, who despite no longer working for the Royal Lab still has quite the knack for and interest in magitech. using rare crystals collected from meteor showers, he crafted something that effectively acts as fuel-free propulsion for someone with gravity magic. it’s useless to most monsters as gravity manipulation is a rare magic skill to have, but priceless to someone like Pap, and quite the feat of engineering regardless - and allows Pap to strike quite the dashing and enthusiastic space adventurer and local monster rescuer. ;D
