sometimes i wish i could draw lul
this is gonna sound so cliché and preach-y but honestly anyone can draw
I’m not saying that, like, everyone is an amazing artist, but I firmly believe that absolutely anyone can become a very, very good artist as long as they put in the time
I have seen so many people go from kindergarten level art to near professional in the space of a few years just because of consistent, dedicated practise
of course, finding the motivation for that can be hard at any level, but so much of art has to do with things that aren’t innate. it’s things like colour theory, training your eye to see rather than imagine (like-- for things you think you know how they look like, forcing yourself to actually look, etc), getting your hand accustomed to moving with fluidity rather than stuttering along, etc, etc.
if you don’t want it enough, yeah, it’s not gonna happen. fuck, I think I’m a pretty decent realist / observational artist, but I still have a really, really hard time putting pencil to paper or pen to tablet most days. I’ve gone literal months without drawing, and I know it’s stagnated my progress, and it’s all been because I look at everyone else and think I’ll never be able to catch up to that.
but I’ve seen so, so many people make far, far more progress in much shorter time periods. it’s honest-to-god about being consistent, about wanting it, and about practising.
(this is just something I’m really passionate about because you can draw you just don’t have the hours needed to draw at the skill level you want to. but I promise, hell, just drawing an eye every day for 30 days, and you’d see massive improvement. training your eye to see is a huge step. training your hand to get used to the motions is another one. it’s not easy, god, no, but it is something you can do.)
