Gladion jumped when Silvally nuzzled his shoulder, but he turned and smiled at his pokemon. It hummed, and Gladion noticed a second pokemon.
He blinked. A Yamask? Where had that come from? He knew for a fact they weren’t native to Alola, but this was definitely a Yamask, hugging its mask to its chest, tail curled around Silvally’s crest like a Horsea. Gladion reached towards it, but it shrank back, curling up on itself. Gladion could see it trembling.
The Aether Foundation was used to dealing with pokemon who were scared of people, but they weren’t really prepared for ghost-types. It was extremely rare to find a ghost-type in need; most beings didn’t tend to mess with them, and they were known to mostly keep to themselves.
All in all, Gladion felt woefully unprepared to deal with a skittish, terrified foreign ghost pokemon. Still, he would try to do what was best for it.
What was best for it was probably to ask for someone who was actually capable of caring for ghost-types to look after it.
Silvally found an extremely timid, skittish, probably traumatized Yamask somewhere and we’re not really prepared to care for it. Do you think you could help out?
Oh, the poor thing! I desperately want to help, but we’re currently swamped at the League. You could try asking Cleo Walker, though; she knows just as much about ghost-types as I do. I can send you her email if you need it.
Gladion sighed as he leaned back in his chair. Cleo Walker. Yes, he knew her. He’d been hoping Acerola had been available, though; Cleo was rather… intense.
No, that’s fine, I already have her contact details. Sorry to bother you.
How do you feel about taking care of a traumatized Yamask? I don’t know where Silvally found it, but we don’t really have anything set up for pure ghost-types, and Acerola thinks you’ll be good.
It took a suspiciously short amount of time before Gladion got a text back. Despite sending her an email.
Yeah. I don’t know where it came from.
And you want to entrust them to me?
Acerola thinks you can be trusted.
Acerola thinks a lot of things. Some of them are even accurate
Can you look after it, or do I need to figure something else out?
Sure. I’ll pick them up after school
Oh, right. Should you be texting in class?
It’s lunch. Look out the window some time, vampire boy
