For anyone (no one) wondering what I would have worn to the Met Gala: a post.
For last year’s “In America” I’d do a completely accurate recreation of my favorite American 1770s gown:
But I’d add on wildly oversized lace engageantes:
You know, these guys. But like. Trailing to the ground.
And I’d only wear the gown, not the petticoat-- you can’t really tell in the above picture because it’s all the same fabric, but gowns from this time period were more like skirted jackets, and would be open in front without the additional skirt underneath. So for instance picture the lines of this one without the green skirt.
Obviously I’d wear the right supportive garments to get the shape of the skirts, but this is a Legs Out look because under the gown I’d be wearing sequined hotpants in the same green as the dress and the open-toe over-the-knee stiletto jean boots (joots) complete with ripped knees I found at a Goodwill last summer.
Hair situation would of course have to be that fluffy, ruffly, frilly, floofy 1770′s cap over high hair moment, as seen on Miss Mary Cruikshank, Mrs. Izard, etc:
For this year’s “Gilded Glamour” I would obviously just wear an exact copy of Alice Vanderbilt’s Electric Light House of Worth gown, complete with lightbulb, but made entirely out of fiber-optic fabric so the whole thing lights up. Naturally.
