Although Poliwrath is an amazing swimmer, and can rival many Water-type Pokemon, it prefers to live on land.

Poliwrath are capable of running on the surface of water for nearly a second.

Poliwrath's body fat percentage is almost zero as its body is almost entirely muscle, which allows it to swim across oceans without tiring, do intense workouts without ever getting fatigued, smash through drift ice while swimming, and turn boulders to dust with a single punch.

In Alola, many children learn to swim by imitating Poliwrath.
