she doesn’t get paid enough for this.
now, she’s long made her peace with that, but resignation doesn’t stop the thought from crossing her mind every time a kid tears up or throws a tantrum that makes her want to sob and scream too. only, that’s not exactly socially acceptable, is it?
shame, really.
today’s slightly better. she’s had worse days, and she reminds herself of that as she crouches down to smile at juri, a six-year old she’s been babysitting for about two months now. the little girl isn’t prone to tantrums or the like, save for super rare occasions. so, imagine jo’s surprise when juri let out a loud wail as soon as they stepped into the photography studio where juri is meant to get her photo taken.
and so, jo finds herself using the sleeve of her sweater to wipe away juri’s tears as she tries to figure out what exactly is bothering her. “this is a bad place,” juri finally says a little too loudly and jo cringes, wondering if the owner heard that. granted, juri isn’t wrong in the sense that the studio does give jo a mild case of the heebie jeebies, which is far from an unfamiliar feeling but an unsettling one nonetheless.
“we’ll just take one picture, then we can go and get some ice cream, alright?” jo tries with a grin, because the last thing on her agenda is to piss off juri’s mum by failing the one thing she’s meant to do today. of course, juri’s frown deepens as she shakes her head in defiance. letting out a sigh, jo glances at the owner with a tight-lipped smile. “a little help, please?”
