While she had never been someone to be easily unsettled, always making sure she was prepared for whatever life threw at her when complacency was always a recipe for disaster, she would be lying if she said that the aftermath of Goldilock’s death hadn’t shaken her slightly. It wasn’t grief or sadness and it definitely wasn’t anything close to fear when there was always a certain amount of healthy confidence in her abilities. Perhaps it was just because the normal she had slowly built for herself had been turned upside down and the reality that she had let herself get too comfortable had sunk in enough for it to make her skin prickle.
Work was usually a distraction but this time it didn’t seem to quite be hitting the mark until a familiar face was walked in in handcuffs. A smirk tugged at her lips as she told the other officer she would take it from there before addressing the petty criminal. “You know if you wanted to see me all you have to do is ask. There’s no need to commit a crime just to spend some time together.”
