After undertaking a secret mission from Stalingrad back to England Johnny Red returns home to Liverpool hoping to see his Mum and Dad for the first time in the two years since he had joined the convoy to Murmansk. He finds that German air raids have just destroyed his old home.

Liverpool (and its surrounding area) was the most bombed city in England, after London, during the Second World War. One of the heaviest periods of bombing was in May 1941 (which predated Germany's invasion of Russia and when this strip could have taken place). Raids continued up until early 1942.
