The Father’s conversation with Ely was quite interesting. The thought that you wouldn’t know if you were the last person on Earth is terrifying, yet soothing. If there is no one else, everything is pointless, but at the same time everything is meaningful. The environment completely changes. Everything is yours, but it doesn’t really matter because there is no one else. Possessions are no longer relevant. The only rules that apply are the rules on Mother Nature. Everything that once had meaning in society is gone. It is a very interesting thought. For example, you wouldn't know you are the last person on Earth, so you would still be paranoid about others possibly trying to eat you.
