Let’s Talk About Pokemon - Alolan Diglett and Dugtrio
Alolan Diglett:
Well this is a peculiar one. I thought the appeal of this line was its simplicity, but then we got a couple of alternate Alolan forms that simply add onto the thing. If anything, I would've gone with something of a sand-dwelling variant with maybe a Ground/Fire typing or something similar. But this is alright too, I suppose. Adding the little tufts of hair isn't too offensive a move.
Personal Score: 6/10
More or less the same!
Alolan Dugtrio:
“I thought this line's appeal was its simplicity” is the phrase that echoes whenever I see this silly thing. A silly thing with a bit of neato trivia to it but still. At least it keeps up with the line's goofiness by giving it some ridiculous hair. Is it nitpicking too hard to wonder the practicality of that kinda hair for a burrowing Pokemon? Eh, best not question it.
Oddly, these two are Ground/Steel type. What's the steel come from? Well, that hair is inspired after “Pele's Hair,” an odd geological phenomenon where glass forms in long hair-like strands from volcanic activity. That combined with the darker rubble around its base, you'd think that'd make it Ground/Fire type still. But oh well. Funniest bit is, holding this hair is actually dangerous and can cut up your hand if you’re not careful. So don't go petting your Dugrio's hair on Refresh.
If anything I think this is once again a feature that could've been dedicated to an entirely new Pokemon rather than being slapped onto Dugtrio. It's fine that it exists, and I'm sure Gamefreak's proud of the memes it's spawned. But eh.
Personal Score: 6.5/10
I'm happy ya exist, but. I got quite a few nitpicks that drag it down.
Overall:
A sound idea. If a bit out of nowhere.
