happy father’s day

happy father’s day is that what i’m supposed to say?

how does one celebrate the one person who fills you with hate?

do i hate you? no, i don’t believe that’s true.

but do you cause me a lot of stress? i think it’s an easy guess.

you provided me with so much a roof, some food, and such.

i can list all kinds of stuff for that, i can’t thank you enough.

but you always make me cry no matter how hard i try.

every time i make a mistake it’s amazing how much you make my heart ache.

i bury myself in my tears because i’ve disappointed you for years

i can’t just be myself no matter how many accolades i have on your shelf.

but today i’ll put a smile on my face. maybe i’ll pull you in for an embrace

because this day is just for you. i’ll say things that are untrue.

i’ll look at you, smile and say: “happy fathers day”
