Tamen De Gushi, also known as Their Story and SQ, and published as SQ: Begin With Your Name, is a Yuri manhua webcomic by Tan Jiu at Mosspaca Studio. This celebrated and beloved series follows two students, tomboy Sun Jing, and the kind-hearted Qiu Tong.
Tamen De Gushi is released on Tan Jiu’s Weibo page in Chinese and is on Comicwalker in Japanese. While the plot meanders a bit, it has great humor, fantastic artwork, amazing characters, and some of the most powerful moments in any Yuri work.
The 100 Days of Yuri event is over, and 2019, the 100th anniversary of the Yuri genre is coming to a close. Here’s to a great 100 years of lesbian content and another 100! Girl Friends is a Yuri manga series by Milk Morinaga. It follows a quiet high school student, Mari Kumakura, who is befriended by the friendly and popular Akko, a socialite in her class. Akko’s friendship with Mari starts to draw the studious girl out of her shell as they hang out with other girls and talk about boys, fashion, dieting, and dating. However, Mari realizes with horror that her feelings for Akko go deeper than those of friendship, and she attempts to pull away.
At the same time, Akko starts to question her sexuality and, when Mari starts dating a boy, she is thrown into a fit of jealousy. She comes to terms with her attraction to Mari and sets out to show her love to her friend.
This wonderful series explores many aspects of relationships and identity through two young women discovering who they are and being honest with each other. Unlike most S school narratives, Akko and Mari have sexual attraction for each other and a deep romantic and sexual love that blossoms over the course of the series. Even better, it does not end when the two get together, but spends some time allowing the girls to be happy in a relationship and deal with the challenges that come with love.

100 DAYS OF YURI: Day 88 - Kindred Spirits on the Roof
Kindred Spirits on the Roof is an adult Yuri visual novel by Liar-soft. Toomi Yuna is a timid girl living a quiet school life at Kokonotsuboshi Girls’ Academy of Commerce until one day she meets two spirits on the roof. These spirits, Sachi Enoki and Megumi Nagatani are long dead lovers, and Yuna is the only one who can see them. Realizing this, they enlist Yuna’s aid to help them pass on by experiencing their first time together and helping the girls around the school confess their love for each other. Thus Yuna sets out on an epic quest to create a Yuritopia!
The visual novel is mostly linear and explores several couples, all of whom have side stories and extra scenes that can be viewed at the player’s discretion via the in-game calendar. The game is partially voice acted, but the Full Chorus DLC adds full voice acting and additional benefits.
While the game is for adults and contains explicit sexual content, I do not consider it to be pornographic but rather an honest and thoughtful exploration of sexuality and relationships. The characters and pairings are engaging, well written, and adorable. My personal favorites are Hina and Yuna, but every couple feels unique, and players will love them! The amount of content is staggering and well worth the game’s price point.
The game is licensed by MangaGamer and can be purchased from their store or Steam in English. Additionally, four drama CDs were produced, all of which have been released with English subtitles by MangaGamer.
A two-volume spin-off manga series by Hachi Ito and Toi Rentsu featuring illustrations by Aya Fumio was released in Japanese by Hirari Comics. They continue the story after the events of the game, focusing on new characters with cameos by the game’s cast. Seven Seas Entertainment released the Kindred Spirits on the Roof manga in one omnibus volume in 2017. It is available for purchase digitally and in print.
Flip Flappers is a 2016 fantasy television anime produced at Studio 3Hz. It was directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama. The series follows Papika, an energetic girl and member of the mysterious organization, Flip Flap, and Cocona, an ordinary middle school student. Together, they transform into magical girls to retrieve artifacts called amorphous fragments from the strange worlds of Pure Illusion.
The anime has incredible, colorful, and fantastic animation, with each episode featuring a different world with a unique visual design. On the surface it appears to be a colorful and fun adventure, however, it is one of the densest and most complex yuri works. Flip Flappers explores themes of adolescence, adulthood, sexuality, and the Yuri genre through its postmodern storytelling and symbolic, surreal imagery. Newcomers can enjoy the fun adventure while old hats will be enthralled with analysis and theory.

Mage & Demon Queen is a Yuri webcomic by Color_LES.
The story follows a young adventurer mage, Malori. Malori pines for the attention and effect of the cruel demon queen Velverosa. After being murdered and respawning more than a few times, Malori begins to worm her way into the demon queen’s cold heart. The comic is funny and bawdy in all the best ways. It features fantastic dialogue, a detailed world inspired by RPGs, and plenty of detailed and adorable artwork.
Current in its second season, Mage & Demon Queen can be read for free on Webtoon. New episodes are released every Thursday for free with early releases available for Fast Pass purchase.
Butterfly Soup is a visual novel by Brianna Lei. It follows a group of queer Asian girls in high school living in California. The girls join an all-female baseball club together and spend their time playing the game, falling in love and memeing.
It has a calm and interactive visual aesthetic, but all players will remember is the fantastic writing! The game is laugh-out-loud funny, with excellent character dynamics, references, and an excess of quotable dialogue. Each of the girls in the game feels like one of your best friends from high school. They are witty, realistic, and realistic, and poignant. When Butterfly Soup is not making you grown with laughter it explores deep and powerful issues, like the experience of immigrants, or the struggles holding an identity.
More than anything, Butterfly Soup is affirming. Whether you are someone who shares an identity with one of the main characters or just a person who throws themselves into the hellscape that is internet culture, you will be able to connect to the visual novel.
