Simone Manuel has won the gold medal in the Women's 100 meter freestyle in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Manuel became the first African-American female swimmer to take gold in an individual event, but she does not want her race to define her athleticism. "The title 'black swimmer' makes it seem like I'm not supposed to be able to win a gold medal or I'm not supposed to break records. And that's not true...This win kind of helps bring hope and change to some of the issues that are going on in the world. I went out there and swam as fast as I could, and my color just comes with the territory."
