Amar'e Stoudemire, 2001 😁☝🏻🏀 I shot this for SLAM when Amar’e was still in high school in Orlando. They flew me in to shoot and leave the same day. I spent an hour or 2 shooting. It took a few tries to get the ball to stay spinning on his finger long enough to get the shot. It kept falling off a split second before I clicked the shutter. (Maybe I’ll post the contact sheet someday) Anyway, I wasn’t using any lights and had the aperture wide open, (and this was film), so the entire flight home all I could think about was this picture and really, REALLY hoping it was in focus. 😅 That’s one of the beautiful things about shooting on film. You never TRULY know what you’ve got until the film is processed and you’re looking at the contact sheet with a wax pencil in hand... I also remember telling him that he should skip college and go directly into the NBA 😬.
