Amar'e Stoudemire by Mike Schreiber Limited edition prints available at: https://mikeschreiber.bigcartel.com/product/amar-e-stoudemire I shot this in Orlando in 2001 for SLAM when Amar'e was still in high school. I really wanted to get a good one of him spinning the ball on his finger, but he wasn't super great at it and it kept falling right before I could get the shot, so most of the contact sheet is variations of the ball falling and him laughing. I think this was the last frame and I remember being really nervous on the plane ride home, hoping I got it while it was still on his finger AND that it was in focus. There was no digital to look at and double check (still isn't for me), and I didn't use lights to freeze the action, so it was either there or it wasn't. Amar'e Stoudemire, 2001 😁☝🏻🏀 I shot this for SLAM when Amar’e was still in high school in Orlando. They flew me in to shoot and leave the same day. I spent an hour or 2 shooting. It took a few tries to get the ball to stay spinning on his finger long enough to get the shot. It kept falling off a split second before I clicked the shutter. (Maybe I’ll post the contact sheet someday) Anyway, I wasn’t using any lights and had the aperture wide open, (and this was film), so the entire flight home all I could think about was this picture and really, REALLY hoping it was in focus. 😅 That’s one of the beautiful things about shooting on film. You never TRULY know what you’ve got until the film is processed and you’re looking at the contact sheet with a wax pencil in hand... I also remember telling him that he should skip college and go directly into the NBA 😬.
