why is it that when you involve yourself too much to a show that when it ends, it feels like some part in you also ends too

why is it that when you involve yourself too much to a show that when it ends, it feels like some part in you also ends too
currently feels like... I am climbing a rope, fighting to get to the top. but stress, personal problems, mental health, etc. force me to slide back down the rope. I'm just trying to get ahead but now my hands have rug burn. it hurts to keep climbing. it hurts to just hold on. but giving up isn't an option, so I continue to climb.
