Being the middle child was often seen as a bad thing. It even had a whole syndrome named after it. That wasn’t the case for Phoebe Doyle, though. She never felt neglected, never felt loved less than her brothers. In her opinion, her parents did a great job at balancing three vastly different children. Loud and charismatic Roland, and sickly yet bright Lucian. Phoebe fell somewhere in the middle, naturally. Not as loud or charismatic as Roland but not as worrisome as Lucky, she was outgoing and energetic. She was content to keep herself occupied by delving deeper into the woods or being roped into any antics her brothers wanted. Phoebe thrived in the forest. She thrived in the pack. She was her happiest outdoors, no shoes, hair wild, as she ran and explored. School didn’t hold much for her. She knew that it wasn’t the place for her. She knew it like she knew that her wolf was a part of her, always simmering just beneath the surface.  The plan had been to graduate. To just make it through those grueling hours until she could walk across the stage with her brothers and get the piece of paper that said she did her time.  And she did. It was a joyous time for everyone involved. It meant they could move on with their dreams. Phoebe saw it as the end of her prison sentence. She could go back to staying close to pack territory, focusing on the things that mattered most to her; her family, her friends, and her forest. At least until Roland came up with the idea to create a band. Phoebe had been in the minute it had been proposed. A band with her brothers? It sounded insane. It sounded like a lot of fun. Which it was. Every time they got on stage and heard people screaming their name the bigger they got was a rush that Phoebe hadn’t ever thought she’d cared for. But the fame was addicting and it was fun.  The fallout, however, was not fun. No matter how hard she tried there was no talking either off the edge. She didn’t think anyone was at fault. Not for any perceived wrong doings and, despite the blessing that she’d received from the pack witches, her ability to be the anchor and voice of reason fell on deaf ears. With the band breaking up and their sibling bond seemingly severed, Phoebe went back home to what she knew. She spent more time exploring the forest, working and helping the pack healers, and getting back her sense of self. But as the time has gone, she’s realized that she isn’t herself without her brothers. So, using the money that she’d saved from the band, she booked a flight to Swynlake. One way or another she planned to make Roland and Lucian see reason. After all, three was better than one.

Everyone wants to see their name in lights, to hear their name on the lips of thousands of people; to feel like they've made it.

Or, most everyone; that was always more his siblings' dream than his own, but Lucky didn't mind so much helping them get there. 

Born part of a trio, the last, youngest, and the weakest; it was viewed as practically a miracle that he even survived, much less thrived. But luck always seemed to be on his side from the very beginning. 

And maybe life felt ideal, growing up in a little town at the base of the Smoky Mountains where the community didn't cast much of an eye towards the pack that dwelt there. Why would they? The wolves had never brought much harm, but always a good deal of protection for as far back as most of the handwritten history books in the town library told. 

Lucky didn't want for much, his momma was the head of the pack and his daddy a trusted advisor in their home, his big family always around; siblings and cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents made up his existence. He was taught to look after his family, his neighbors, and those who couldn't look after themselves; the world outside didn't concern him much. 

Until it did. 

By the time the twins had arrived, who Lucky adored from the start, he was off to attend a proper high school and life had a funny way of changing.

Suddenly things like Magick politics came into his life, stealing his own direction away because what he wanted just wasn't possible for some Magicks. Not the ones who were 'unsafe' and not to be trusted. 

It was okay though, his siblings had stars in their eyes and Lucky, well, he was pretty good at playing instruments, had an ear for it, and boy could he sing. So why not? Roland had it all laid out for the three of them; they were going to be famous, they just had to keep their secrets. 

Wasn't long before their band, South of Midnight, was bigger, and bigger, and bigger. Right on to Nashville bigger, talks of worldwide bigger and leaving cover songs behind for their own music. Wasn't too easy to hide the truth, but people who liked stars don't really want the truth anyway, they want the ideal, the larger than life perfection. Stars can't be people, they have to be either worse or better, but never just people. 

The first fight was bad, the problem was for everything Roland wanted to be, Lucky was just a tiny bit better. A better musician, a better singer, a sweeter smile to the crowds because he cared just a little more than Roland did, and back home everyone was waiting for him to take over. The things he wanted always seemed to go to his younger brother. 

When their manager, because Nashville had meant they needed such a funny thing, put Lucky center stage? Roland didn't like it, and not even their sister Pepper could keep the peace for long. 

Roland did a terrible thing, because he wanted Lucky to shine just a little less. But when the bad luck always seemed to fall on everyone around Lucky instead? Roland knew he shouldn't have trusted a sorcerer to do a proper job, should have gone right to one of the witches back home. 

The second fight was worse. That was the one the world saw, the one that broke all the dreams and Lucky's favorite guitar. The one that shattered the band and showed the world their claws; cameras love some drama on the big stage. Maybe if that curse hadn't been there, making it all worse, it would have happened behind closed doors instead. 

But it didn't, and there was nothing left to say; werewolves were dangerous, they weren't entertainers, they weren't people who should be on stage. The lights went dark on that dream for good. Roland and Pepper did a few interviews to argue their success but nobody would listen, and Lucky disappeared. 

Just one more headline that wouldn't make much difference eventually, except to the people who lost their dream because of it. To the family who lost one of their own, because Lucky wouldn't come home anymore when he knew he wasn't welcome.

Not everyone wants their name in lights; living in that glow too long sometimes feels like everything you are belongs to someone else. When the lights go out the stage, and a person, can feel awfully empty.

Roland Doyle isn’t just a chef. He’s a movement. A culinary force of nature with a personality louder than a chainsaw at a punk concert and a laugh that could shake the walls of a cathedral. Big, bold, tattooed from his knuckles to his toes, and with the kind of charm that could make your grandma blush, Roland is living proof that you can’t keep a good werewolf down. Life wasn’t always this fabulous, though. There was that whole band fiasco, remember? Yeah, that band - the one that blew up faster than a deep fryer at a county fair. Roland was the beating heart behind the bass, the soul of the music, or at least, that’s how he saw it. But fate, that twisted little shit, had other plans. The spotlight? It didn’t shine on him. No, it found his brother, Lucky, the golden boy who could just exist and people would swoon. Lucky didn’t earn it like Roland did. He didn’t fight for it. It was like the universe just handed it to him on a silver platter, and Roland? He was left gnawing on the scraps.

But Roland Doyle doesn’t do scraps.

So, fueled by equal parts jealousy and an unhealthy amount of tequila, Roland did what any self-respecting, slightly unhinged guy would do…he found himself a back-alley sorcerer. The kind of guy who smells like wet dog and bad decisions. One curse later, Lucky’s golden glow dimmed, and Roland was ready to step into the light. Only, things didn’t exactly go as planned. The band imploded, the secrets got buried, and Roland? Well, he was left with nothing but his ego and a hell of a lot of free time.

But here’s where it gets good.

Roland, never one to sit in the shadows for long, decided if he couldn’t have the spotlight on stage, he’d take it to the kitchen. And not just any kitchen….his kitchen. He fired up his phone, opened an OnlyFans (because, let’s be real, people will pay for anything these days), and started cooking like his life depended on it. Shirtless, tattooed, and swearing like a sailor with a stubbed toe, Roland whipped up dishes with the same reckless abandon he brought to the bass. He knew the cooking part would at least make his granny proud right! Half of these damn recipes were hers after all! 

And people loved it!!!!!!

Turns out, the internet can’t get enough of a foul-mouthed, tattooed werewolf screaming about the importance of butter temperature while flipping pancakes at 2 AM. His TikTok, OF, and hell you name it blew up faster than the band ever did. One day he’s making risotto while ranting about exes, the next he’s teaching people how to properly sear a steak while blasting punk rock in the background. His OnlyFans? It’s not just for the food, if you catch my drift. The man’s got a fanbase that’s equal parts foodies and people just thirsting over those tattoos and that chaotic energy. Plus all he has to do is hash tag the bands name and those old fans come running too! 

Roland’s life? Fabulous. Ladies on his arms, tattoos on his skin, and a bank account that’s looking real healthy, thank you very much. He’s got brands reaching out, collaborations in the works, and a cooking show that’s just waiting for him to give the green light. He’s not just a chef; he’s a damn star.

But there’s one thing still nagging at him. One tiny little itch he can’t scratch.

Because no matter how many followers he’s got, no matter how many Michelin-star chefs slide into his DMs asking for collabs, there’s still that unresolved thing with his brother. Roland doesn’t need the band. Hell no. But he does need that apology. Lucky needs to own up - to the fallout, to all of it. Roland’s moved on, sure, but his pride? That beast is hungry, and it won’t be satisfied until Lucky admits he wasn’t the only one who screwed up.

So, here he is, strutting into Swynlake with his head held high, a fresh set of knives in his bag, and a following that would make influencers weep. He’s got a cooking gig lined up that’s going to catapult him to even bigger fame, he can hear the James Beard nominations now but first? He’s heading straight to Lucky’s little cinema, standing on those steps, waiting for that damn apology.

And maybe, just maybe, he’ll swing by to see what Pepper’s up to. Not because he misses her or anything. Just, you know… to casually remind her how well he’s doing. Rub it in a little.

Because Roland Doyle? He’s not just surviving. He’s thriving. And the world better be ready for the chaos he’s about to unleash.

Cruella De Vil (nee Astley) was born the daughter of the baron and a baroness of Hastings. From an early life, Cruella grew up in the lap of luxury. She was frequently left alone as her parents attended events, so Cruella spent a lot of long hours with her nanny or left to her own devices. When Cruella was eight she was finally allowed to attend an event. She was expected to stay quiet and be a good example to polite society. What Cruella saw had her in awe: clothes, fashion, beautiful dresses. Sparkling necklaces and bracelets and earrings. Cruella attempted to grab a set of earrings a lady there had taken out in the bathroom. For surely Cruella would look nicer with them than that lady did. She was caught and thoroughly punished for her actions.

Cruella learned that she needed to keep her interests closer to her chest then. She was sent to private school and during her free time she worked on design sketches. At her private school, Cruella met her first magick. It was a fairy girl who took advantage of her abilities and it found Cruella riddled with envy. Over time her envy only grew more powerful as her mind was stuck on magicks like the fairy and how magicks just had an upper hand over mundus people. It made her angry enough to join with an anti-magick friend who showed Cruella a way to regain the advantage. The two of them captured a fairy and found a way to make use of its wings. There was an investigation for the disappearance of the fairy, but nothing could be traced back to them. After she graduated, she wanted to start her fashion empire. Her parents refused to finance her ambition. They believed she should make a good connection and marry.

It took her a few years, but she found someone malleable known as Gerald De Vil. Cruella let the man charm her and woo her and once she had him ensnared in her web, Cruella made him a deal. Gerald would be able to marry her and get all the wealth of her family along with his and give him one heir, and he would allow Cruella to create the business of her dreams. Cruella and Gerald were married in 1982, and Cruella finally got access to the funds that she needed to start her business. She and her husband moved from Hastings to London. With that, she then reluctantly fulfilled her part of the deal and got pregnant. She hated everything about pregnancy. The only benefit was that Cruella was able to get access to dragonhide, and to her delight it was able to expand and work for maternity outfits. These sold so well that Cruella was able to consider herself a millionaire in her own right. This crowning achievement far outshone the birth of her own child in 1984. 

The best years of her life were consumed with growing and growing the business and traveling around to gain more magic resources. The first moment it went south was when some magick rights person claimed one of her designs used mermaid scales. Cruella quickly covered this up and claimed it was actually a unique lizard that she had as a pet. She was able to do this and bring forward some photographic evidence that she had paid someone to give to her. More recently, however, Cruella made the mistake of targeting a rather admired fairy. This fairy’s disappearance created an uproar in the fairy community outside of London. Her business gained picketers and more and more accusations of the anti-magick cruelty started to take over. Though no evidence had been found against her yet, Cruella decided the best option would be to remove herself from the London area and rebuild and rebrand. Now Cruella and her husband Gerald find themselves in Swynlake, with Cruella’s ambition as strong as ever.

Character Information

Willis’s earliest memory is of his father, walking into their front room, sitting down on the sofa in his uniform, and pulling his son into his lap. He’d just come back from the Falklands, but Will didn’t know that at the time. He doesn’t really remember much about that day, except for his father pulling him close the way he had, and telling him that serving was what the Tibbs did. Fighting for their country, for their people – it was what every Tibbs man did, and had been doing, since the Crimean War. Since that moment, Willis knew it was his destiny – to fight for his country, and for his people, in any way he could.

Growing up his father was away a lot, sent overseas to far off places by the military; Willis still aspired to be a soldier, to fight, to be up on the front line doing his bit, as his father, grandfather, great grandfather and many generations of Tibbs men had done before him. It was as he got older, as he heard his father’s stories of men dying in grizzly ways, and as he saw the news, soldiers dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, that he decided he didn’t want to just be a soldier – he was going to do his bit not just for his country, for his people, but for the boys who were already over there. When it was time, he didn’t apply for the army, he applied for medical school.

He made a lot of friends in his six years of medical schooling he made a handful of friends, people he would no doubt keep in touch with, even a little half-heartedly, but it was his army training that brought his true friends, his best friends – at Sandhurst and then in Iraq, where he saw his first active duty, he made friends for life.

And he needed those friends – those friends kept him sane, whilst they were out there. He saw more horrors than he thought were possible, things his worst nightmares could never have conjured up. Soldiers missing limbs, bleeding out on his table. Locals, dragging themselves to the clinic after an IED went off by their house, or propping themselves up wherever they could and waiting for help to come. Magicks and non-magicks alike, killed in gruesome ways. The more he saw, the more he became hardened to it.

Or so he thought, until he was sent on leave at the end of the war. He barely slept; he barely ate. He woke in the night, screaming, his mind filled with images of what he had seen, with all the patients he hadn’t been able to save, all the civilians who had died, for what reason he didn’t know. At night he dreamed of it all, and it day it haunted the back of his mind, right on the periphery, keeping him from eating, from living.

He kept it to himself, though. He pushed himself back into service, joining a new regiment as their Regimental Medical Officer, and beginning to tour the world. For a while, it was actually kind of fun, seeing new places, spending time with the new friends he had made, learning new skills. But then he began to notice it, like a veil was slowly being lifted – everywhere there went there seemed to be Magicks thrown into slums, or attacked; their seemed to be more Magicks than Mundus at the clinic, wherever it happened to be. Atrocities against magicks seemed to occur more and more often, or maybe he was just noticing them more. Maybe he was becoming more aware.

As it happened, the local Magick community tended to be his favourite, wherever he went. The people were kind, they were, usually, without prejudice. They were grateful, they were polite, friendly. For a while, touring with his new regiment, meeting the locals, helping anyone and everyone he could, he was happy.

It was an IED that ruined his career. It went off right outside their medical centre, on a day that was busier than most – or that’s how he remembered it, anyway. He threw himself in front of a small boy, one he had come to know quite well; he was an empath, and he wanted to be a doctor too, when he grew up. The boy lived, but Willis was rushed to hospital, and eventually sent back to England. He had severely bruised his spine. Someday he might walk again, but it was going to take a while.

Back in England, back at home, he had time to develop new nightmares, to relive that day over and over again. He went through so much physiotherapy he thought of giving up, of accepting his life as a cripple. He regained the use of his legs, but he would never serve again; the pain in his lower back would come and go, sometimes so bad it would cripple him once again. He accepted his honourable discharge.

But he couldn’t stay at home. He couldn’t do that – he started looking for other places, places away from his home town, and from the memories of his service, and his father’s service. His father had died a few years before, at home, as peaceful as he could’ve hoped for. His father told him how proud he was of his son. How well he had done, carrying on the Tibbs men tradition. He didn’t want to live in the shadow of that. He should’ve served well into his old age, as his father had, even if it was behind a desk.

Whilst searching for a new home, he found Swynlake. The hospital there offered to hire him, and he knew he would be able to afford a home in the area. He moved there with only his clothes and a few photographs to his name, to start his new life in Swynlake, hoping to move on.
