What are your favourite genres to write?

I mostly stick to Fantasy, but I’ve dabbled in Sci-fi a few times. Worldbuilding in Sci-fi is harder though...

What do you write the most? (books, short stories, poetry, fanficion,…)

I write mostly fanfic short stories, but I’ve got original novels in the words as well.

What are your favourite tropes?

Found family. Umm, that’s basically the only one I know the name for off the top my head.

What genres do you dislike?

Psychological horror, gushy romance, and most chick-fic.

What’s your writing process like? (outlining, pantsing, plantsing, structures, worldbuilding,…)

I have an idea (could be something said or read that’s twigged, could be my mind making connections between things, could be a prompt I’m given). 

It goes into a document. 

I think about it, poke and prod, and do that thing where one lays in bed and half dreams, half writes it. 

If I think I’m going to forget the plot beats, I note them down in the doc, but this doesn’t happen often. The plot beats aren’t stored in the head; they’re stored somewhere around the diaphragm.

I write until I get stuck, then I go do something else (a different WIP, gaming, fanfic reading, moodboards) until I get unstuck.

I start writing again

(there can be many repetitions of “write, stuck, <other>, unstick, write” in a project)

I finish

I edit & proof while agonising over a title (if I didn’t give it one from inception, but that’s rare)

I post

I like to say I’m a plantser, because I do plan. But it’s all mental, I very rarely outline, so it looks like I’m a pantser.

What’s your favourite way to get writing advice? (books about writing, youtubers, podcasts, creative writing courses, blogs etc)

Probably blogs. It’s handy to read a post, let it the subconscious dwell on it, and then subsume it into what I’m doing.

What inspired your current wip?

Currently the Big Project is Haven’s Ember, which was inspired by a few users wanting a fluffy Fix-it fic for TESIV: Oblivion, were the main character doesn’t die at the end.

What are some of your favourite books?

Oh no. I dislike this question; there’s just so many. Well, here’s a shortlist of books & series that mean something to me:

1. What are your favourite genres to write?

Usually modern or contemporary fantasy in alternate universes. Love magic systems and what symbolical meanings I can stuff into it. Love to psychologically explore my characters by putting them trhough torture, but the emphasis is on hurt/comfort, angst for the fluff and happy endings. 

2. What do you write the most? (books, short stories, poetry, fanficion,...)

My aim are books, sometimes I write drabbles and short stories, or AUs for my wip. I get way too invested into characters to abondon them for too short of a format XD. I sometimes write fanfics for my fave shows or anime, but keep them to myself mostly.

3. What are your favourite tropes?

Found family, enemies to friends, rag tag group of misfits, defrosting ice king/queen, developing platonic friendships and dynamics in teams. 

4. What genres do you dislike?

Not a big fan of detective stories and horror, nor tragic endings. 

5. What’s your writing process like? (outlining, pantsing, plantsing, structures, worldbuilding,...)

I always start with the characters, they live in my brain way before I have anything else. I build the emotional arcs and character development and the themes before I start looking for external plot to cause it all, which is the most flexible thing for me and chages a lot. So the core and characters can stay the same but the plot can go through 5th update like my current Wip Stormkeeper. XD Magic system I have early on for my love for magic, but the details about the world come later. I outline around the 3 act structure and key events, but I can’t make scene lists or it kills all the joy. 

6. What’s your favourite way to get writing advice? (books about writing, youtubers, podcasts, creative writing courses, blogs etc)

I love writing books, read a ton of them and still can’t get enough. Writing process is endlessly fascinating to me. I enjoy youtubers and podcasts too and have lot of fave writing blogs. 

7. What inspired your current wip?

Mostly other big stories or characters of my life like Sasuke and Anakin, anime, Ghibli movies like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, tv show The Originals and personal themes I want to explore. 

8. What are some of your favourite books?

Uprooted, Darker shade of Magic, Eragon, HP, Vampire Academy.  

9. What themes come up in your writing the most?

Mostly finding or defining yourself, gaining confidence, misfits, building relationships, learning from differences, family, bromance,...

10. What are your plans after you finish your wip?

Probably get beta readers and an editor and see if the story is worth self-publishing it. I might try to send it around too, but self-publishing seems more accessible. 

11. Which part of the writing process is your favourite?

The daydreaming and outlining. I love planning the story and making up the details and developing exciting moments. Writing is very up and down and editing is kinda neutral.

1. Do you keep a physical journal?

I do! It’s mostly just for rambling about mushy things like love and affection… just fun lil things like that!

2. Do you want to write as a career, or is it simply a hobby?

Honestly, I’d love to have writing as a career — it’s something I’ve been trying to work my word stamina up to! I try to get my yearly word count a wee bit higher each year. 2018’s was 270k!

3. What was your favourite childhood book or series?

I gotta say it was His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman.

4. What is one of your favourite line from your WIP?

EXNIL with absolutely no context: “How long can I steep in bitterness before it becomes all I am?"

5. How long have you had your writeblr? What is your favourite thing about having one?

I think I made this blog about 6 weeks ago? But I didn’t start actually using it until like 2 or 3 weeks ago! My favourite thing about having one is how wonderful everyone is!!! Y’all are so happy and I love it, and I love all your projects (:

6. What are some common sources of inspiration for the things you write?

Definitely music, I’d say. I’ve written whole projects (usually 10k or less) to a handful of songs that just got me goin’. I also like to doodle when I’m thinking of things to write, or to figure out how to write something!

7. What are you currently reading?

I’m reading The Song of Achilles! I’m enjoying it so far (:

8. Who is your favourite character ever written? What do you like about them?

I’ve gotta say I really enjoy writing Hyacinth, and Satan? Like… completely different kinds of characters! Hyacinth is very calm and loving (though I’d definitely argue they have a more hardened heart than, say,,, Cillian does), and they are a a source of knowledge inside the BTalS universe.

I just really love Satan because he’s stupit.

9. Do you have writing mentors in your life?

Not really??? All my friends are inspiring to me, does that count?

10. How often do you write?

I try to write every day, but usually it’s about five or six times a week (last year it was around 5k a week on average)!

11. Why do you write?

Honestly? I get really antsy when I’m not making things, and I can’t always draw! It’s also like… I dunno. I have this Thing where if it isn’t written down then it doesn’t really exist, and therefore it shouldn’t be indulged. By that I mean I don’t understand having grand daydreams about stories you aren’t planning on writing! Like I can get why someone would do it, but I don’t understand doing that but never having the intention to actually write the story or characters out (:

1) Who’s your favourite of all your OCs, and why?

I mentioned Hyacinth and Satan in a different tag game (watch me post these out of order lol), but I also really love Rémy — he’s a complete garbage can and I adore him. Like,,,, completely a self-serving douchebag, but has just enough of those ‘well I could be a good person’ moments that other characters are constantly pulling their hair out over him.

2) What’s your biggest writing strength?

I’d say just straight up being able to churn out words. Other than that,,,, idk!

3) What’s your biggest writing weakness?

I find my writing as a cohesive unit is a wee bit,,,,, convoluted on one end, or far too simple on the other? Like I think that’d be more a lack of consistency than anything else lmao

4) Who do you think is the most talented author ever?

I’m not sure!!!

5) Have you ever completely finished writing a book?

Completely as in finished re-drafting it? Never! But if we’re talking about completing drafts — I have! Several times! (:

6) If you have, what’s your secret? If you haven’t, how are you going to get there?

I’d definitely think just straight up hours put into it would be a “secret” — if you put in effort, you’ll get product back out.

7) What’s your favourite trope to read/write about?

I like to write that like… ‘people who could kill each other, but would die for each other’ trope!

8) Who’s more fun to write, protagonists or antagonists?

I like writing characters which could be either, depending on which side the narrator is leaning.

9) Are any of your characters based, or partially based, off of real people? If so, who and why?

10) What was the first fandom you can remember being part of? (And if you’re a writer, and you’re not in any fandoms… what?)

I don’t watch a lot of media! And I never wrote in fandoms when I was into them, nor did I post anything about them haha. But I will say watching Inuyasha is what got me into drawing when I was 12/13!

11) Do you write in more than one language? If so, which ones? (And if so, you’re awesome)

I occasionally write in French, but it isn’t really good and y’all’ll never see that writing LMAO

1. How long have you been writing?

I started writing when I was around 21/22 years old, so it’s been,,,, 4 or 5 years around!

2. How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a writer?

I was 24 when I really decided I wanted to pursue writing as more than just something to pass the time.

I actually have listed them out to a friend before, so I’ll just copy/paste that!

2015;

[NaNo Proper] AtWSQ (first draft) — I handwrote the entirety of this draft.

Radioactive (first draft) — tbh this is in the same universe as Irradiated, but a few years afterward. A lot of the main characters in Irradiated are mentor or side characters in Radioactive. I just decided I liked the story of Irradiated better lmao

AtWSQ — “And the Watchers Shall Quake”

Biblical apocalypse! The Princes of Hell are trying to find the swords of Michael, so they can eradicate god and free humans from being the playthings of angels.  

BtalS — “Bon Temps avec les Sorcières”

Witches in NOLA! Warring witchery families; a ritual that must be performed in order to keep the world safe; a rebellion brewing. All of this under the guise of an easy-going city with the motto of “Laissez les bon temps rouler!”

EXNIL — “Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit”

Dark academia! Philosophy students reflect on the moral implications of murder, and if it can ever become justifiable… then they put it into practise.

IRRADIATED — see also “Radioactive WT”

Post-apocalyptic with mutants! The end of the world came and went, and in the ashes of the world there was something left. Will it be the saviour that the world desperately needs against the corruption that has sprung up like weeds? Or will it be truly the end of the end times?

Astra Inclinant — “astra inclinant, sed non obligant”

Space Pirates! They’ve been charged to find and neutralise the celestial gods who threaten the galaxy with their all-consuming hunger.

1. Do you make playlists for your WIPs? For particular characters or for the story in general?

I make so many playlists tbh! For both the story in general, and for individual characters. They can get super long sometimes… I think one of my project playlists is 120ish songs? I love Spotify.

2. Do you RP (or have you ever done so)?

I used to! Personally my roots are in individual writing, so I’ve come back to it. (:

3. Have you ever written (or do you currently write) fanfiction?

I did write probably two or three pieces a long time ago (right near the beginning of my foray into writing), but I wasn’t very good at it haha.

4. What’s your go-to writing snack?

Does black coffee count? Lmao I drink a ton of it! But as for an actual food item, I don’t snack while I write.

5. Do you have a favourite piece of writing advice you’ve given or been told?

“You can’t edit what isn’t written” and it’s gd true.

6. What’s your favourite font?

I use “Cochin” on scrivener! Its italic setting is cursive, so it’s easy to see how many words or sentences have been italicised by a quick once-over.

7. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve Googled recently for research?

Aaaahhhh good Question! I think just “how many caffeine in coffee”

8. Do you prefer to set your stories in real or fictional places?

A mix of both tbh

9. What’s one thing that you love about the creative process?

Seeing things shape up — like being surprised at how much you adore a certain character’s reaction to an event (especially when it isn’t how you would react to it)!

10. What’s one thing you dislike about it?

Can’t work on 5 projects exactly simultaneously; you have to switch between them.

1. Do you use any writing resources like books or guides? What is your favourite?

I like to look at writing resources on the internet sometimes?? But honestly I just sorta go with the advice of “can’t edit what isn’t written” until I finish a draft haha

2. Do you like worldbuilding or find it frustrating?

I enjoy it to an extent! I’m not one to stress over tiny details, but it’s fun to make things really your own, y’know?

3. What’s your favourite weather to write in?

I like writing a lot when it’s cold and snowy!

4. Have you ever gotten inspiration from a stranger?

I don’t think so??

5. Have you ever gotten inspiration from a dream?

Yes! Several short stories have been partially inspired by dreams

6. Do you write chronologically or jump all over the place, writing your favourite pieces first?

It really depends on the project tbh! I usually outline a wee bit for everything, then I’ll write from the top, but when I’m redoing a draft I skip to different parts to bulk up or remove/change things (:

7. Do your characters tend to share traits with you, or not?

Hmmmm, definitely a few things have been sprinkled into characters here and there, but usually they’ve been exaggerated to the point where I wouldn’t exactly call them shared traits but more tangentially related traits.

8. Do you listen to music while you write? What type?

Always, and everything! It really depends on the project.

9. Do you prefer planning on keyboard or by writing on paper?

I usually plan on paper, simply because I’m more used to it. I wrote my first novel entirely on paper!

10. Do you write in cursive?

I do!

11. How many WIPs have you got, and what are they?

I have a WIPs page here with small descriptions, but I have one introduction done right here too (it’s EXNIL)

I was tagged by @albarnesauthor So here are my answers :  1. What’s your favorite part of planning a new WIP? It‘s the whole discovering new worlds thing. New concepts, new ways to see something.  2. Do you have any old WIPs that you keep coming back to? What are they about? Oh yeah, there are two of them. One is called “Harem” and it’s about a world where men are the minority and therefore allowed to have harems so there will be enough offsprings to keep the population stable. But I figured out recently I need to redo the who thing because I started it too early in its timeline. The other one is called “Rebellion” which is about a post-apocalyptic world with city-states under security domes to keep the radiation out. Each city is organized in three levels and people will get sterilized to make sure they don’t a problem with resources. Children are born by cyborgs and being pregnant is illegal. In this world a young woman founds herself pregnant but has no idea why. Her quest to save herself and her baby leads to a lot of conspiracies going on and the way she got pregnant is just one of them. 3. Is there a personality trait/characteristic that all your OCs have in common? Not all, but the majority is sarcastic or cynic. 4. Just the opposite, is there a personality trait/characteristic that you avoid writing into any of your WIPs? Not knowingly and not that I can think of a trait. 5. If you could guarantee that either way would work, would you prefer to self-publish or go through a publisher? I don’t want to publish but if I would be forced to I would go the self-publish route because we writers already have all the work with writing, re-writing and promoting our works, why should a publishing house get more out of it than we do? 6. Do any of your WIPs have pets in them? What kinds and what are their names? They are always cats. Weird, I never thought about this coincidence until now. Only two or three dogs, one turtle, and an owl. Naming all of them would go too far but my latest WIP “Always Prepared” has two cats who are called Bastet and Freya. 7. What’s your least favorite thing about creating an original character? All these freaking details like scars, nervous ticks etc. I am better with figuring them out while I write and not planing them beforehand. 8. What is your favorite thing about your favorite OC? I need to vote for a favorite OC first. I would say it’s Deyani. She is a dwarven thief with the temper of an angry elephant, the motivation of a male lion in the sun unless it is useful for herself and fights like a horde of angry cats. She is sarcastic, doesn’t take shit from others and had been through some bad stuff in the past that made her push people away but she is also always willing to help the helpless. 9. Do you prefer silence or background noise when writing? Music, I always have WIP playlists to keep me writing. 10. If you could live in any world that you’ve already created, which one would you choose and why? The world of Deyani. I mean big fluffy riding cats. What else do I have to say? 11. What was the best book that you last read? Ok, I go with books I bought because I did some beta reading recently. So the best book I read recently is “Judas Game” by Ethan Cross. I admit I am a little fan girl when it comes to the Shephard Series. And honestly a book every 15 months is a writing goal I still train for.
