concert overviews: finish ticket 11/11, FTFT berkeley! i am fully aware that nobody reads these but i don’t care they’re more for my own records anyways

OKAY so i went with miranda and cerys and anisha and after a somewhat excruciatingly long bart ride riddled with "just like bart" references we made it to the line a little before 4!! and immediately i was shocked because we were SUPER CLOSE to the venue and the line was barely a storefront or two down the block and it was like wow. i was shook as the kids say. anyways we sat around for a little while and after a bit we started playing cards against humanity with the kids in line behind us and when they told us their names i was like wait. holy shit i know one of you. and it turned out that me and @rosetrick had met at our pal sophie's birthday party 2 years ago lmaoooooo so yeah that was wild

brit also came by eventually to take pics and stuff so we talked to her a little and she said that playing CAH in line was a great idea and she offered to hold it at the merch table inside for us!! she is so sweet 😭 and speaking of sweet later morgan our beautiful soccer mom delivered on her promise of hugs and capri suns for the squad.... i cant believe she actually Did That i love her so much!!! what kind of goals she is the literal best

anyways berkeley is like the cutest city ever like when we were walking to go get coffee we saw the downtown at sunset with all the lights on the trees and stuff… man i hope i get to live there someday. AND not only was starbucks was playing misterwives (which me and the barista sang along to) but the place we got paninis from played saint motel and the mowgli’s and smallpools and MF IN THE SUMMER AND NEVER ALONE and we were like its too fuckin early for this leave us alone so ya that was the line

THE SHOW: SO we got up to like 3rd row in the uc theatre which is super pretty and has lots of chandeliers and a small panic ensued at the beginning cause anisha had trouble with her ticket and stuff but it was all good and we got her back in the end

so first up was irontom and they were….. ummm…. interesting? they were very fun and loud and rocking but we were very concerned about the lead singer (with the amish haircut) cause he was very… enthusiastic. basically we just wished he would keep all of his clothing on and that he wouldn’t have a stroke or something and nothing of that sort happened but still like… is he okay?? but don’t get me wrong they were good tho

but the real star of their set? ALEX DIDONATO. he’s basically #1 irontom stan so he was rocking out in the side stage area to half their set and it was fucking hilarious to watch him be headbanging and air guitaring and stuff the whole time, and since it was the last night of the tour he came out during their last song and did some crazy shit. it was wild and i think my appreciation for him grew like 300% just from watching him rock the fuck out to them debatably harder than he does to his own band

also at the end of the set they just gave the whole mic and mic stand to the front of the crowd and everyone was like wtf so some girl was like “hey. sup. do you guys want this back” into it 

and next was run river north!!!! this band has a special place in my heart because there are 0 white people on stage when they play. not one. all 6 of them are asian AND THERE ARE 2 GIRLS AND ONE OF THEM PLAYS THE VIOLIN!! BOI !!! also their lead singer has really long hair and dressed up as jesus for halloween so we kept calling him jesus even though we know his name. anyways their music is soooooo good… miranda loves pretender and i love 29 so we held each other to be emo during those and all their other songs are amazing too. at the end of their set like half of ft came out AGAIN to sing some all these things that i’ve done mashup with them so like classic last night of tour shenanigans

basically all that’s notable between the sets was that crim and gabe and ricky had to go onstage to set up all the gear and everyone would cheer for gabe and crim whenever they did anything and miranda and i kept yelling “RICKY SING ALL STAR” to keep the meme alive

but okay here we go. FINISH TICKET WAS THE BEST. THE FUCKING BEST. they were so happy to be home and they kept saying how much they loved the crowd and the show and u could just tell that they were on top of the world aaaa!!!! i can’t even describe every song they played cause all i would say is that each and every one of them sounded so goddamn good and made everyone go super hard but what i WILL say is that brendan hoye. him. hes literally one of the best and most powerful vocalists of this day and age and hes offensively beautiful and he turned me straight again and yeah i should probably go back to talking about the music

as usual they opened with naivetea/lying through our teeth which is arguably one of my favorite songs by them and both that and wrong are so. fuckin good. gabe is such a good drummer what the fuck??? im pretty sure i got whiplash from the combined efforts of head banging to the wrong intro and irontom/RRN’s sets

it was just so many feelings dude!!! esp for doctor stripped down where they turn all the lights off and brendihoi just sings a cappella into the totally dark theater and it just gives u the chills man. i already said how good his vocals are but Dang Boi

their arctic monkeys cover was absolutely A+ as was the lighting for tranquilize and pockets so that’s my technical elements part of this review

after they talked some more about how cool it was to be playing a show at home in the east bay they mentioned their old stuff and their origins as a band…… AND THATS WHEN U KNEW THEY WERE GONNA PLAY RIVERS…… AND BOY THEY DID IT AND I GOT SO EMO

speaking of emo, DUDE. BRING THE RAIN. i can’t even fucking describe but in the really soft bridge part miranda and i pulled out our signs (“welcome home” and “bring the rain stopped the drought”) AND THEY ALL SAW THEM AND BRENDI SMILED AND AAAAA 

when they came back out for their encore brendan started talking more about feelings and the election and stuff (to which me and some other people responded to by yelling “FUCK TRUMP”) and when he said “we’ve only played this song one other time on this tour” then i KNEW they were gonna do never alone and i just mcfreakin lost it. that song was so emotional and powerful and we finally did the crowd thing where everyone puts up the flashlight on their phones and god it was just gorgeous

and scavenger as the finale was so wild, before brendan crowdsurfed HE HELD MY FUCKIN HAND and then jumped into the crowd where cerys and miranda held his foot and his ankle and he made some very interesting faces. and then once he got back onstage (where irontom had joined them with a megaphone for some fuckin reason) alex tried to crowd surf too EXCEPT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CROWD DROPPED HIM SO HE JUST FELL TO THE FLOOR but it was cool he took it like a man and came up whooping or something and then jumped back on our side of the crowd who DID hold him up and it was beautiful and that was the show!!! :’) by the end of this i had made it to barricade and when crim and ricky started handing setlists out i started hollering “CRIM, YOU OWE ME ONE, I WON YOUR MEME CONTEST, CRIM YOU OWE ME” at the top of my lungs (which was not very loud because i had no voice left) but then crim left the stage and i was momentarily defeated UNTIL ricky came back out with a stack of a few more setlists and honestly? i’m not proud of this but i was so enthusiastic i literally ripped it out of his hands when he came around to where i was. i’m sorry ricky. BUT I GOT ONE SO FUCK YEAH

AFTER-SHOW: so as soon as the pit started to dissipate i started crying from sweating directly into my eye but also slightly due to being emo. anyways we got back out into the lobby and got some merch and stuff from brit!! we said hi again and when i showed her my setlist she told me how the band has no idea about the funny little notes on it cause their sound guy writes it. i already said this but she and the rest of their crew are the best. anyways after we got our hats and shirts and stuff we turned around and were like oh.. omg there’s crim… he was talking to some other people and they took FOREVER to leave but we did get to talk to him!!! i was introduced as “the one who won the meme contest” and he laughed and said he was glad i got a setlist even though he forgot about it lmaooooo hes still the best tho

anyways once i’d thanked him for the opportunity to roast michael (which he said wasn’t hard at all) and mrnd and crs got their pics and stuff signed we went outside and joined anisha in line to meet everyone else!! god bless her for waiting there for us tbh cause otherwise it would’ve taken even longer. even so it took forever for us to get up to meet them and we complained about how our feet hurt but we did meet brendan and gabe!!!! aaaa!!! MY HUG WITH BRENDAN WAS SO NICE I LOVE HIM and they signed all our stuff and took pics and were wonderful!! cerys also showed gabe her iconic hand michael and he was like “wow it looks exactly like him it doesn’t even matter that he’s not out here” fkhjfkdbcsjf u can just tell that they really truly love their fans i’m so. ESPECIALLY SINCE GABE AND BRENDAN EVEN FUCKIN PHOTOBOMBED OUR PIC WITH ALEX (whom we had to get separately bc he was standing off to the side but then went to join them) AND IT WAS HILARIOUS bc even though we thought we were harassing them cause we were taking forever they still Did That i cry

overall it was really chill and casual, like their friends and families were just standing around and chatting and we got to talk to morgan some more and she told us “every band tells the crowd that every show was the best show of the tour but that was actually their favorite show of the tour. right when gabe came upstairs he said ‘that’s one of the best shows we’ve ever played’” SO LIKE :’)))) morgan i know you go thru the finish ticket tag so if you see this i just want to say thank u so much again for being so nice to us and an amazing soccer mom you’re the best i love you!!

anyways before we left the huge group i was like “oh hey nick is also here!! we should meet him too” so we did that! he’s very cool and tall. and just as we were leaving to try and find anisha’s dad we saw crim again near the venue front so anisha got a pic with him while my mom yelled at me on the phone for neglecting to answer her texts

so yeah that’s about it!! all i have left to say is that i’m love? finish ticket? so much? they are amazing and i’m so lucky to have experienced such a cool hometown show like that. ok the end!!
