I rewatched Koisuru Asteroid episode 10, it’s by and large a pretty fun and enjoyable time, but ngl it’s probably the weakest episode in the series. Not so much because it actually has anything particularly wrong with it, but I think more so because of its position in this only 12 episode adaptation.
This episode serves as the proper introduction for these two, Yuu Nanami and Chikage Sakurai, hence just Nana and Chika.
The latter is obviously Sakurai’s sister, and is similarly into geology, though tends towards an interest in like, birth stones and fortune telling and just general pseudoscience bullshit lol. She’s fine, she’s very cute, voiced by Konomi Kohara, she’s just an all around likeable new girl, but she suffers from not really getting to do a whole lot of anything at all.
The former is actually into meteorology, though the arc we set up for her and go through with in the episode is that she doesn’t actually like meteorology, but studies it because some flood damage fucked up her aunt’s house and so she wants to learn about it so she can help people and shit. This very woke and moral mentality she has leads her to sorta call out the current club for being easygoing, but she’s, not so much put in her place as just learns she’s kinda wrong, when the others tell her about how astrology and geology can be helpful in life too, and then also she sees a particular type of rainbow that she pops off for and Endou-sensei’s all “focus on the parts of meteorology you do love”. It’s a pretty simple arc, resolved fairly quickly, and the thing about flood damage and stuff grounds the show in a distinct sense of reality like I’m constantly talking about. But it’s just another case where like, it’s still not a whole lot for her character.
And I mean yeah the TL;DR is that we’re in episode 10 of a 12 episode show, these 2 have basically just been introduced, and the next 2 episodes are all about the Kiraboshi challenge, so plain and simple, we don’t really get to know either of them that well. I still think this episode is really good, it’s just that this is literally all the time we spend with these newcomers before the show moves on and then the adaptation is finished. Maybe I should just read the manga.
And then about the Kiraboshi challenge, there’s a little written essay you need to submit to get accepted for it, and in quite the twist, Mira actually passes while best girl Ao fails. Ao actually takes the failure better than Mira does in a really cute scene, though despite that, Ao still ends up following Mira to the challenge anyway, because hey even if the show’s gonna acknowledge the reality of failure, the girls have still gotta be cute and mostly get what they want anyway. I know that sounds bad, but I still enjoy it. Also like, Ao’s doesn’t even get to fully participate, she sorta just gets to observe. Something that the Kiraboshi staff allow pretty much just because everyone in this show is nice as fuck, like I’ve said, and also they only say there are only 7 spots for the challenge anyway but I’m pretty sure not all of them even get filled so they had the space for Ao. I think it makes sense is the point.
And yeah, we’ll see where that goes. I mean, I already know, this is a rewatch, but I’ll talk about it tomorrow is the point.
