I enjoyed The Road as both a novel and as the film adaptation of the novel, each in different ways. What I liked most about the novel is, unsurprisingly, the depth there is behind the plot and the characters. As for the film, I think they did a remarkable job playing with the cinematography, especially the visually dark tone that is present in every scene, like we discussed in class. As with every film adaptation of a novel, there are quite a few arguments as to how the film should be. I don't think this is necessary, save that the film still focuses on the same general themes and characters of the novel. There are several differences between the novel and the film and I think that's great; it shows the separate imaginations and creativity of McCarthy and of Kazakhstani. If Kazakhstani were to create an exact replica of McCarthy's novel, in film version of course, I would actually be extremely disappointed in the lack of originality.
