13-13irthday:
B looked up from his book as he heard the voice of a woman. She sounded as though she was close to him, and judging by the lack of people around, she was talking to him. He caught sight of the young woman who the voice clearly belonged to and immediately knew that something was off about her.
Not only was she staring at him in a rather strange manner, there was no name above her head nor a lifespan. In fact, the area where B would usually see a scramble of numbers and letters was completely empty. He hadn’t seen that before, at least not in someone who he had seen in the flesh. The only other time he saw an empty space where the name and lifespan should be was when he saw pictures of people who had died..
Oh.
Beyond struggled to see how it was possible, dead people weren’t supposed to be up and walking around like this. Things like ghosts weren’t supposed to exist.
He couldn’t come up with any other reasoning behind it, so he decided to acknowledge her presence. If he spoke to her he could find out why she was different to other people. Of course he couldn’t tell her what made her different, but he would find out what was going on. After all, he was curious now.
"It is quiet here, somewhat peaceful. It’s nice" He looked at her with a small smile, setting his book aside.
Nina hadn't been spoken to for days. She had been talking to herself, quite a lot, in fact, but nothing and no one had ever responded. No one heard her, no one saw her and no one felt her. She could touch things, but not influence them. Someone could place a feather in front of her and she wouldn't be able to move it at all. It left her feeling alone, something she'd always found depressing.
So when he spoke to her, she felt that she might start crying. In fact, she might have if she hadn't jumped up in excitement.
"You heard me?" It was such a cliché and obvious question, but it was the first that came to her mind. "And do you see me?" She had almost been ready to reach out and shake him by his shoulders, but pulled her hands back as if burned. He'd heard her, but there was nothing that suggested he would be able to feel her touch, and she feared disappointment.
