15 Days of Mitch, day 13: favorite tour moment

5 years of PTX

This was just a really special moment, and they were all being really sappy about it on twitter too. And then the audience surprised them by singing Happy Birthday to them before they went into Telephone, which is the first song they ever arranged together. But while we’re on the subject of Telephone, I need to get some feelings out.

First of all, you should watch the first videos of the Trio performing it and then skip to Pentatonix performing it in 2015 or this 5th anniversary show. It’s mind-blowing how much they’ve grown and gotten better and filled out their sound and finessed their arrangement. It makes me a little emotional.

But then there’s also this amazing moment when Mitch hits his high note (which didn’t even exist in earlier arrangements, which shows how much more confident and capable he’s become in his singing). It’s set up so well both in terms of the arrangement and their choreography. Watch how everyone’s clapping and bouncing along to the beat and then they all stop and look at Mitch, and he hits that note, and he’s standing straight and still and just belting it so confidently, and a beat later they all swoop in and start singing and dancing again while he’s still holding that note and standing still. I haven’t seen a ton of good videos of it because people tend to zoom in on Mitch for this part (understandable) but I love watching all five of them during this moment.
