Hey everyone! October is here and so is the return of one of our favorite AU weeks ever, so try not to make any plots or commitments for the next couple of weeks; From 12 AM EST on Sunday, October 9th to 12 AM EST on Monday, October 17th, Chaplin Cove will be thrown into a Psycho Murderer AU! Someone, one or more of the characters you all know from the group, has taken on the role of a crazy killer and is bumping off the townspeople one by one. Will your character be one of the first to go, or will they have to try to outrun the killer? That’s what we’ll find out!
We all remember last year’s fondly, but here’s a refresher on how this is going to work: a character has already been nominated, so if it’s not one of yours, you don’t know who it is. Throughout the week, we’ll have a stream of posts from the temp blog announcing the deaths of certain characters, most likely with small blurbs loosely explaining their death. Any of your characters can die at any given moment, so again we must state, do not make any plots for this week! You could have an idea and then your character can die before it’s executed, so to keep from any disappointments, don’t have anything in mind. By the end of the week, we’ll announce who the killer was, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see everyone, IC and OOC, trying to figure it out along the way!
We are going to assume that everyone is participating in this AU, and is therefore agreeing to be used in its plots, unless we are told otherwise, so if you would like to pull any or all of your characters from the week, let us know ASAP so we won’t include anyone that doesn’t want to be included. We know that it’s a heavy theme (though it will be executed somewhat comically) and not everyone is into horror/crime, but we need to be told in order to know who to pull from the week!
And of course, the blogging from beyond the grave has returned! We’re going to establish (and this is an example of the comedic side of this AU week) a side of Tumblr meant for the dead. It’s called Tombler, and it’s only among those who have been killed. To establish that your character is talking on this social-media-for-the-dead, we request you tag any of their posts after your character dies with TOMBLER (preferably in all caps to make sure you get people’s attention, ja feel). Other social media platforms reformed for the dead, such as Instagrave, can also be in place, but please still tag them as TOMBLER for clarity.
Only the living can talk to the living and only the dead can talk to the dead except for a few special exceptions, which will be the poltergeists. This year, due to less roleplayers and more characters, poltergeists will be elected twoper roleplayer! We will make a note of who becomes one in their death notice so you’ll know who’s been decided of yours. Please do not break this rule by making someone else of yours able to communicate with the living. We did put thought into who has this ability and would rather not have it disrespected.
A few more notes: The killer will be wearing a black ski mask and clothing, so even though everyone who dies will have seen their killer, they won’t know what s/he looks like. Feel free to discuss the murderer or anything else during this week. Though the main point of the AU is to escape the psycho killer, life does go on in the meantime, so don’t feel obligated to post nothing that doesn’t have to do with the town murders. Also, please be sure to tag your trigger warnings, as there are sure to be many this week, and feel free to have deceased characters connect with people from their lives that they’ve lost! This might be one of the only chances you get to write your character associating with a late friend, relative, child, or even pet!
Finally, some notes about character involvement. First of all, starting now, there will be a new character ban until the end of the AU week, simply because we’re going to be writing up the death notes for the characters involved so adding new characters means fitting them into what we’ve already written. Any new characters can be posted as soon as Monday, October 17 when the AU is over, so talk to one or both of the mods if you want anyone followed at that point! Second, not every character is going to die, and for a few reasons. For some, it’s because we can’t find a connection between every single character and the killer(s). Last year we struggled with connecting every single character to our murderer, so while we’re going to try and get as many victims as possible, some might make it out alive. However, we also reserve the right to intentionally exclude certain characters for activity purposes. If you haven’t been on much, or if you haven’t been on certain characters much, you might find your characters not involved in the AU. To be fair, we can’t tell you’re going to be participating if you haven’t been for a while, so it would feel like a waste to spend time using your characters if you aren’t using them, yourself.
If you guys have anymore questions, let us know! We look forward to seeing everyone play this out and get a little spooky with us for October!
