16 MAY 2023 | DAME KELLY HOLMES TRUST, BATH
The Princess of Wales visited the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in Bath to mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2023. She met with young people supported by the charity, which was founded by Dame Kelly in 2008.
The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust is a youth development charity founded on the belief that every young person needs a champion. It pairs world-class athletes with youngsters, who may have a lack of confidence or other struggles, so the sportsmen or women can pass on their winning mindset and help the school children develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life.
During her visit, The Princess of Wales spoke to students from St Katherine’s School in Bristol who are taking part in the On Track To Achieve programme, delivered by their athlete mentor, Paralympic gold medallist Liz Johnson.
She spent time with the all-female group of mostly year seven and eight pupils and joined them in a warming up exercise. She also played noughts and crosses with them and was seen skipping as she tossed bean bags into place on a football pitch.
Catherine spoke with Dame Kelly, who is the charity’s president, as well as Zara, who is one of the Shaping Us campaign champions and discussed with the pupils how working with an athlete mentor has helped them.
