@drarrymicrofic - expect
“Ollivander said that?” Draco lifted his head from the pillow.
“Yeah. I remember being so excited. I used to think I couldn’t do anything right, and then suddenly I was in a world where everyone loved me, where everyone believed I could do great things.” Harry kept his gaze on the ceiling.
Draco’s eyes hardened. Harry glanced at him, smiled sheepishly. “Of course, I learned quickly that expectation comes with responsibility.”
“…I can sort of relate to that, believe it or not.”
“Oh?”
Draco raised his left arm from beneath the duvet. “When I was young, I wanted it—power, recognition. I thought…” he swallowed, “I thought Father would finally be proud.”
Harry’s eyes glowed green in the dim light. Draco looked away, pressing his forearm over his own.
“When the day came—when it was decided I’d take the Mark—I knew it was punishment, not glory.
“I didn’t want it anymore, Harry. But I was chosen, like you. And I had to pretend it was an honour.”
