18014 Just an update on the symphonic/power metal confession (I submitted it by the way). I regard the two genres as separate styles which may have some crossover. I understand that older Nightwish may have had a power metal lean, and Epica also had those traits. When I mention Symphonic Metal, I’m taking about the modern releases of Nightwish and Epica, which are more symphonic metal than power metal. I just find the labeling of Epica specifically as power metal annoying. To me, power metal and symphonic metal have their similarities, but are different in their respective styles. Symphonic metal has that balance where the symphonic elements support the metal, and vice versa. Power metal has a greater emphasis on the metal aspect, with any orchestration being in the background. Just a clarification. (BTW, I realised after confessing that Lacuna Coil isn’t symphonic metal, talk about mislabeling a band! Whoops!)
