  The hedgehog panted with his hands on his knees, the black charcoal used to mask his stripes beginning to sweat off. It wasn’t very convincing in daylight, but thankfully that wasn’t when the pair was operating.

  His partner nodded, plugging in the number to her handheld. She had programmed a basic app early on that showed trends of number of monsters verses time passed, as well as verses the population of whatever given town or city they’d wound up in.

  And it did not look promising.

 “ Where’s the sun     setting right now? ”

  The bat looked up, seeing the soldier crossing back towards her with a determined glare. Despite a cocked eyebrow, she knew better than to ask him if he needed a break.
