What's your reasoning for Smith Scabs > 187s? I don't know much about their quality, except I've heard they can fall apart fairly quickly. (I don't mean to debate that they are better necessarily, I'm just really interested in why you prefer them)
187s have more durability and fit problems. Their straps tend to wear out/stretch faster (making the pads slip) and their padding compresses quicker, making them less safe. Smith Scabs have the same issues but you can usually get a quite longer life out of them first. I’ve heard of 187s starting to go bad in less than a month.
