Charlie Chaplin died at the age of 88 on Christmas Day 1977 - the next day December 26th some of the headlines around the world.
His son Michael Chaplin said of his death:
“The last years of his life he very much withdrew into himself, it was very hard for my mother, she had a very hard time looking after a man who had been so vital and such a strong presence suddenly really vanishing away but he seemed to be very much at peace with himself. He kind of slowly, slowly drifted away and his death was just at the end of a very slow drifting away.”
