Each year we mark our special day starting from one, two, three and then we reach teen. It's the 18th year mark that seems really special. Turning 18 is the best part of being a teenager (well for me). Not because you get to celebrate BIG nor receive many gifts but because you get a chance to live for another year, learn a lot of things in life, you get to meet strangers who'll become your best friend, get another chance to be blessed and to be loved.
So in this post, I wanted to share to you, 18 things I learned as I turn 18. But not only the things I learned but things I’m still learning. I’m very excited to the changes it will make to my life. So without further adieu and before Masskara rocks here in Bacolod.. I now proudly present to you 18 things I learned as I turn 18.
1. Never let yourself get too attached. You'll get hurt in the end.
2. There are 4 people you can trust. God, Family, Yourself, and your Best friend (the one that is by your side through ups and downs and accept you not only at your best but also at your worst)
3. It's better to have 8 true friends than 1000 fake ones.
4. Be independent. Not all the time you have someone to lean on.
5. Love? You have God (and food lol). Relax, you don't have to rush. God is busy writing your love story.
6. Sometimes, it's good to have a cup of coffee all by yourself and take a nice break from the world.
7. Not all you want is what you'll get.
8. Try your best to embrace growth and to be mature enough.
9. Forgetting about school even just for a while is not a bad idea.
10. What others think of you is none of your business. Be yourself. It's a good feeling.
11. Believe in yourself. You just have to think that you can do it. There will always be haters, there will always be doubters and then there is you, proving them wrong.
12. Always look at the brighter side of things. Don't focus on the negative. Remember, positive thinking can lead to positive outcomes.
13. Live everyday like it's a special day. You can never be certain of what's going to happen next. Expect the unexpected and prepare for the inevitable. In short, Live your life to the fullest.
14. Always do what makes you happy. But make sure that in doing so you are not putting anyone down below you. Be humble and smile.
15. Don't stress yourself over simple things. It'll just make you ugly.
16. Work it to earn it.
17. Always forgive and move on. I know some people may say some words or do something that will hurt you but just FORGIVE. It can be on the other day or next week or whenever you want. Just forgive! I’m 101% sure that it will lessen your heart's burden.
18. You don't own all the problems in the world. And everything has a solution. Remember you may have big problems but you have a God that's way bigger than those problems. Don't let yourself get depressed or unhappy. Cheer up!
I would be lying if I tell you that I learned these things in a perfect way but life has a lot to offer and it is a learning process. So cheers to turning 18! I can't wait to learn more and become the better, until eventually the best version of me.
