The Zenith 8-H-023, from 1946, another iconic piece of design by the legendary Robert Davol Budlong, father of “Streamline Modern”. He also designed the iconic Sunbeam toaster and electric shaver. Budlong was truly one of the greatest industrial designers of the 20th Century. Suck it, Jony Ive.
This was another of my favorite radios designed by Robert Davol Budlong: the 1946 Zenith 8-H-023. Truly one of the most awesome designs from the immediate Post-War period.
This was made when there were actually TWO different FM bands available to the public: “Low FM” and “High FM”. The “low” band was eventually re-commissioned for police use, and the “high” band is what we know as “FM” today.
Another amazing Robert Davol Budlong design, the Zenith 6-D-014, from 1946. The blend of straight lines and curves just gives me inner design-freak a chubby. This came out the same year as the 8-H-023 I’ve already posted.
