EL CINE BLUE Reviews
Sarah finds the perfect apartment in Hollywood, only to discover that her new neighbors may be hiding a wicked secret.
Review BLUE : Interesting film, we all have insecurities when it comes to moving or finding the ideal apartment, this film reflects a hypothetical case of a lonely girl who falls into the hands of neighbors who have a closed and malicious circle.

Acabo de ver: 1BR (2019) #plex
Been engaged with care of an aging parent the past couple days (nothing urgent or serious, but sometimes people need chauffering to appointments), so didn’t get to watch any scary movies, aside from a couple of MST3K Halloween-themed episodes.
This gives me a chance to recommend two pretty good ones I watched in September.
First was 1BR, a thriller more than a horror movie, though some of it is pretty horrific. A young woman finds a seems-too-good-to-be-true little apartment in Los Angeles, in a friendly community that seems almost like an extended family. Well. That’s because, you guessed it, it’s a weird little cult. What made this movie more interesting than most is the way the girl becomes indoctrinated into the group, through good ol’ US military style “enhanced interrogation” methods (ie, torture)--noise, sleep deprivation, stress positions, gaslighting, etc, etc. Our girl starts out pretty meek but proves herself to be pretty tough, and the resolution is a truly satisfying payoff. This film has the exact same ending as The Invitation (another great thriller I intensely recommend), but I wasn’t even mad at it. It’s an interesting twist on a trope-intensive story. with minimal gore and a compelling, quick-moving plot.
Next is one I instantly put in 2022′s Top Five All-Time, I loved it intensely from the first five minutes and will definitely watch it again. H6LLB6ND6R is a witchy, punk-metal, coming-of-age story created by the Adams Family (mom, dad, and daughter). I had been reading some buzzy articles about this team of metal musicians and teenaged girls (Zelda Adams stars, sister Lulu Adams and dad John Adams have supporting roles, mom Tobey Poser directs and stars, and some combination of them wrote, produced, and shot this purely DIY indie film that “looks expensive”), and was somewhat trepidatious, but was pleasantly surprised.
Izzy and her mom live an isolated life in a house on the side of a mountain. One fateful meeting with local teenagers opens up Izzy’s world in ways her mom struggles to accept. Women in their family have witchy powers derived from the blood of living creatures, reproduce without men, and mom and daughter clash as Izzy comes into her own power. There is an absolutely fantastic soundtrack provided by their mom/daughter indie metal(? what are genres anymore?) band, which is the part of the film I was most hesitant to embrace--such things can easily become cringey but every song is so perfectly suited to the film, I could find no fault (plus they look cool).
Gory/bloody at times, but overall it’s a moving story about mothers letting go of growing children, young people discovering and defining themselves, healthy teen rebellion, and the complexity of parent/child love. If you watch even one of my scary movies this year, make it this one.
Apartment Hunting Is a Nightmare in 1BR
Apartment Hunting Is a Nightmare in 1BR
Newly arrived in LA, Sarah (Nicole Brydon Bloom) attends an open house at a modest yet idyllic apartment complex. After getting accepted, she quickly moves in and meets the other residents. They are all incredibly friendly, and she even has a handsome and helpful neighbor next door. But when banging pipes within the walls keep her up at night, she becomes exhausted. Expressing her frustration…
