Storyboard, character design and background design
I experiment with taking photographs of plastic bags and bubble wrap (and others material) and edit a lot to have a interesting background design so that my character blended way in the film.
the story: My group and I discuss and overall came up with a fun ridiculous plot with the three images we had to represent in our film.

1 Minute Film Update
Today has been my most productive day animation wise, finished one full lip sync scene, as well as many of the big set pieces in my film. Annoyed to discover that most of the audio I have recorded is unusable because of an echoed effect recorded on the tracks, turned out that someone had turned the mic round in the audio booth. So I will have to rerecord audio at some point.
Doing this animation has definitely improved my animating skills and I have learnt a lot of helpful tricks that will prove useful in the future. But I can’t wait to have this film finished so I can just sit back and watch it through.
SIGBIN (2017)
SIGBIN is a dog-like creature in Philippine folklore. It comes out at night to suck blood from the victims using its shadow and it is said to be a pet of an Aswang(Ghoul).
250 words reflection
This project has been a very valuable journey for me. I learnt so many things and face different challenges. I’m proud of my story, it’s certainly an enjoyable one. Even though it’s my personal memory I’m glad people are still able to relate to it. “The Red Crayon” wasn’t my initial idea for the animation, I’m hesitant to change the concept because I’m afraid “The Red Crayon” is too childish. After I received a lot of positive feedback from everyone, I felt more confident.
Moving on to the designing stage, I mostly struggle with the background and colour. These two have never been my strength. My first plan was to not focus on the background and having some kind of washed-out colour background which created a flashback vibe to the animation. Eventually, I made a bold decision where I draw all the backgrounds in the same style with the characters, they are not detailed backgrounds but it is lots of work and effort, surprisingly I was enjoy doing it. I also had fun storyboarding and visualised my story. I have some minor struggles with finding a good angle and staging. I understand that I still have a lot to improve but I did the best that I could and I am pretty happy with my final animatic. I enjoy making my production bible, I fell behind the schedule and couldn’t finish it as my plan but I do have fun making it.
The animating stage causing me many troubles. I struggled and not quite sure where to begin. I thought I would make a rough animation version base on the animatic just to figure out how the character act and move. But it took me like forever to be done. In the end, I found that I could just add more frame to my animatic, this is much quicker as I don’t need to draw my keyframes again. I also have a few struggles trying to keep my character consistent throughout the animation. I hope I will get the hang of it soon. It such a shame I couldn’t finish my animation before the hand in, there are still lots of work that need to be done and I will try my best to finish it before the end of year show.
It’s been a long journey and an enjoyable one. Despite all the hardship I faced, I have improved and learnt a lot this year. Thank you all the tutors and friends, for always being so supportive.
250+ words about 1 minute film
While creating my 1 minute film I had many struggles but I feel that what i have created has exceeded my own expectations for what I can do. Im not going to lie as i started this project I found myself in lots of situations where i was struggling to get the right imagery for my film and even struggling to draw the character more than once!. I had many issues with how everything looked and worked. But as I slowly got further into the story i started to work out how i wanted things to look and even how to draw them out.
I found the voiceover to be one of the hardest things, I found it hard to think of a script that wasn’t trying to over explain everything. I wanted my voiceover to sound relaxed but also went along with the story, I found the extremely hard. I’m still not happy with the voiceover but it’s definitely better than what it was before. There are many things that I would like to improve/fix about my film, for example the beginning scenes with the main character walking into the exam hall are very jumbled. I would’ve also really liked to add an overlay that makes it look like its been done in a school book, but I had many technical issues when trying to do this. Also it has obviously not been finished due to the lack of colour, i feel with more time i could complete this but i think that you can get a good idea of how it may have looked if completed. The audio starting early and finishing late is also intentional just in case this causes issue. All in all i’m very proud of my 1 minute film, with more time I would’ve wanted to have it all coloured but other than that I feel i have progressed loads since the start of the year and i’m just amazed it works!
