Literacy Sponsors
According to Deborah Brandt in Sponsors of Literacy, a literacy sponsor is “…any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy- and gain advantage by it in some way.”
Upon evaluating and writing about my own literacy sponsors, a central idea arose. My experiences with reading and writing sponsors have been both positive and negative, and in the end they led to a vision of my future career being based around literacy.
