The greatness of God rouses fear within us, but His goodness encourages us not to be afraid of Him. To fear and not be afraid--that is the paradox of faith.
A.W. Tozer
Many times, especially recently, I find myself telling God, "Father, I want this in my life. Father, I want that to happen in my life." I get so caught up in all these things I want to happen in my life. And then my Heavenly Father replies, "Calm down, child. It's not wrong to want these things. But don't worry yourself about them. Seek My kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Trust me."
ROLLIN WITH OLAN 6
My Psalm
Father, I am living a life in which I do not know who I am.
My perception of myself has been corrupted by my past wrongs and the evils I have witnessed in my life.
I long for the days when I was a child and oblivious and innocent to wickedness.
I feel like I had a better perception of who I was then than I do now.
Lord, who am I in Your eyes?
Am I this rebellious child who never seems to get anything right?
Am I this fool who always feels unaccepted and rejected by society?
Am I this harlot who always seems to look for love in the wrong places?
My heart is corrupted and my mind twisted so that I hear voices in my head saying that I am not loved.
Is this truly who I am?
Is this my identity?
My God, help me to stay connected to who You are.
It is in You that everything makes sense.
It is because of who You are that my heart can be made pure and my mind cleared.
In You, I find who I am.
I know my identity the more I find who You are.
You are love; in You I am loved.
You are peace; in You, I find peace.
Help me to accept the way that You see me: Beloved and Your Son.
When I get close to God, the desires of my heart change to what He has for me.
Excerpts from my sermon notes
Your life is the loudest sermon you will ever preach.
Phil J. Rasmussen
Lately, my life has basically been a re-make of Abraham's story. There have been so many things that God has called me to lay on the altar and give up, at least for a little while if not forever. Many of those things have been hard and painful for me to give up, some of sacrifices even hurting others that I hold very dear to me.
But I know that if I am to live a life fully devoted to my Lord and Savior, I must challenge myself not to live a life of compromise. I need to fully trust that God will make all work out eventually for my own good. Even if it doesn't feel like it will, I feel that the God who came to Earth as a man to die for my freedom deserves at least that much.
