1st things first
New blog up and running. I have switched from my hosted WordPress site to a native WordPress site mainly so I can use some of the functionality I didn’t previously have access to. Going this will make things easier in the future to start up to date.

Around this time last year, the Rick & Ray squad was reeling off the release of our producer, Garfield Adams', LP, 1st Things First. If you haven't picked up this piece of art, please do so! http://garfieldadams.bandcamp.com/album/1st-things-first

10 Questions with Garfield Adams
Garfield Adams is the newest artist to be signed to the Rick & Ray Creative Management umbrella. A producer, MC, and sound engineer, he arrives at a point in his career where he finally focused on himself. The result of that focus is "1st Things First", his debut album releasing in November 2011. Tomorrow, he drops the audio and visuals for his first single, "For My City" featuring Josh Koslow. Before that hits the interwebs, we sat down with him and asked him some random questions. Get familiar.
1. What's your favorite food? I don't know if I really have a single favorite, but I'm a crazy sushi fan (Zip Fusion in DTLA), gotta have a dope burger every now and again (Umami) and you can never go wrong with a good pizza (Tarantino's in Pasadena is one of my favs, but my homegirl Alice just turned me on to Masa in Echo Park...DAMN!). 2. If Michael Jackson was still alive, who would win in a boxing match, Mike or Prince?
I don't care what Prince tried to make y'all think with the motorcycle and the way he put the smack down on Apollonia in "Purple Rain", MJ had a monkey....and monkey's are hard as hell to wrastle, dood! Mike Jack FTW!
3. At the movie theatre, which arm rest is yours?
The right side. The gentleman in me lets my lady in first, which means I sit on the right side so I own the right armrest.
4. The best Wu-Tang alias?
I think I gotta run with "Tony Starks" with an honorable mention to "Pretty Toney", "Dirt McGirt" and "Iron Lung"... Cats in hip-hop have been doing the aliases and "aka's" for years, but to actually be recognized by any of your 3-5 aliases AND they all stick, that's some next shit!
5. What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
Haagen Daz Dulce De Leche ice cream, a gang of frozen broccoli and shredded cheese...to name a few.
6. You ride your bike everywhere in Los Angeles, what's your top 5 must have while roaming the city?
My inhaler, American Spirits (I know...sue me), a spare tube, my favorite knife, my phone (with music and camera) and chapstick, in no particular order. Wait, that's 6...
7. What's the first website you visit everyday?
Sound On Sound is the site I dig through while on the train in the a.m. Lots of good articles on mixing tips, new software, and tips and tricks in older software.
8. How often do you get a haircut?
Whenever I get off my lazy ass to cut it. Kinda hard to time it during studio time and family life sometimes, but it's usually around that uncomfortably itchy "my beard is growing back" period.
9. How important is it to "pay your dues"?
Very. On one hand, you have this "gotta pay dues before you get on" mentality that exists in hip-hop circles, and in most creative circles in general. I agree, to a degree...you have to make that investment in yourself and your craft first! However, on the other hand you have this "I got mine, you gotta get yours" vibe that really sucks in music! It's like cats are fighting to occupy the same space and don't wanna reach out to one another for fear they might lose their "shine". Remember, this hip-hop shit ain't just about music, it's also about community and continuing that legacy as well. When you meet a cat who's dope, is grinding to make shit happen and ain't on some ego shit, build wit 'em and see what he's about. Could be a good look for everybody. None of this "gatekeeper, you cain't get in til I say you in" bullshit!
10. What's next for you?
Since #9 was so long, I'll keep this one simple: WORK! GARFIELD ADAMS: TWITTER | FACEBOOK | BANDCAMP
