Disney Trip 2019 - Day 2
Since we were staying at the Contemporary, we had Extra Magic Hours at Magic Kingdom, meaning we could get into the park at 7am, one hour earlier than the general public. And we were right next door, so we were able to walk over in the morning. It was also a Monday, so we were hoping that the park wouldn’t be too crowded, but wanted to get there early just in case. We left our hotel room around 6:30am and were able to take some pictures and still make it to the castle just as they were doing the rope drop.
Our first stop was the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which typically has over an hour wait. After confirming Riley was *just* tall enough to ride, we went right through the line with no wait at all and hopped right on! Riley was a bit nervous, but did great and was happy to see Snow White at the end. She didn’t want to ride it again though!
Next up was Peter Pan’s Flight, which also had no wait when we got there, It’s A Small World, Winnie the Pooh, and the Tomorrowland Speedway.
Then we did the carousel and visited with our first round of princesses! We had a fast pass for two of them, but there were no lines, so we were able to see 4 princesses in no time at all.
We then made our way over to the Little Mermaid, met with Ariel in her grotto, and went on Dumbo, all of which still didn’t have much of a line!
Next up was Tomorrowland, where we met Buzz Lightyear, did the Space Ranger Spin ride, Astro Orbiter, and the Tomorrowland PeopleMover.
Then, we went back to the front of the park to meet Tinkerbell and caught the end of the parade down Main Street.
By this point, lines were getting a bit longer, so we opted not to wait to meet a few characters, and headed over to Frontierland to meet up with Grandpa and Marcia who came over for the day. They joined us on Pirates of the Caribbean, which Jackson was a bit unsure about, but will tell you now that he really liked it. Then, we took a bit of a break and found some lunch.
Our last three rides were the Mad Hatter Tea Party, a 2nd round on the carousel, and finally the Haunted Mansion.
We got on the carousel just as a storm was coming through, so thankfully were able to stay dry and ride it twice without getting soaked. We all had Fast Passes for the Haunted Mansion, but as we were nearing the front of the line, there was a medical emergency so it was shut down for about 15-20 minutes. The kids were a little scared, but both did well.
Since we only had 1-day in the parks, we were on the fence about whether to stay at Magic Kingdom or visit Hollywood Studios in the afternoon. But, Magic Kingdom was closing early for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (which we didn’t buy tickets for), so rather than head back to the hotel, we went with the Park Hopper option and caught a bus to Hollywood Studios. Jackson was also very keen on seeing Lightning McQueen on this trip, so we had to make it happen! Once we got there, that was our first stop!
We all enjoyed the show and as it ended, we got up to leave and realized it was downpouring outside. Thankfully, we didn’t have to leave because the theater is a designated storm shelter, so we just sat and waited for the rain to calm down a bit. It took longer than we liked and we didn’t cover the stroller, so everything was soaked when we got outside. But, we were prepared with a plastic shower curtain that the kids sat on.
It was getting a little late at this point and we knew we’d probably only be able to do one more show, so we made Riley’s dream come true and headed to the Frozen Sing-Along next. She absolutely loved it!
We opted for ice cream rather than dinner at this point and made our way to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
We walked around Galaxy’s Edge, bought a Coke, got yelled at by some Storm Troopers and then decided to go on Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run as single passengers while Kay stayed with the kids. As expected, there was no line at all and we got right on! By this point, it was getting dark, the kids were definitely tired, and we’d done everything we’d planned for and more, so we caught a bus back to our hotel. Our very sweet bus driver gave the kids each a light-up toy, which they loved! We ordered some food at the hotel for dinner and then everyone passed out!
The next morning, we had a long drive home planned, so we got right up and packed up to leave. The kids did great in the car, and thankfully after skipping a nap for the past 5 days, Riley took a quick nap in the car.
We had such an amazing time and can’t wait to plan our next trip -- there’s still so much more to see!!
