We already miss our teen tech interns at the library. Thank you all so much!
Summer intern Bella said one new thing she’d like to learn about is sign language; you can too! CPL has many American Sign Language Books.
After working at the library, teen intern Diamond found that it's a place where anyone can learn, grow and create.
The community mapping/scavenger hunt program ASM interns co-designed with CPL staff was a huge success!
"People don't know that this branch has a YOUmedia where teens and come and chill out and enjoy themselves. I've already told my best friend about it, and once school starts, I plan on telling more teens about it." - Dejah, ASM Intern

We asked ASM interns @CPL:
"What role do you think the Library has in your community?" They responded...
“It has opportunities for kids to come in from the heat and keep off the streets” - Adina
"The Library is kind of like the gatekeeper of the city. It records all of the important documents and files. It provides ways for people of all ages to further their education. It also does a wonderful job of providing a neutral environment for everyone to come and enjoy themselves.” - Yasmin
“The Library has a big impact on my community. A lot of people utilize the space and its resources to get back on their feet or teach their kids or learn (which is generally the main purpose). I've enjoyed seeing the library be used for all these different things.” - Alana
“The Library has a very important role in the city as a whole. It's a great resource where people can come for social gatherings, to do homework, jam out, etc. The library has become more modernized to better cater to the needs of its patrons, which I think is awesome.” - Alejandro
“The reason why I say that the Library has benefitted my community is because I've seen how many kids from my neighborhood come for reporting hours; story time; reading in general; and other projects throughout the weeks. It lightens up a child's eyes when they discover something new. That is mainly the reason I love the summer learning challenge idea. If one [branch] library can do this much good, I know the other [Chicago Public Library branches] are putting in just as much work to make the city better.” - Kortney
"Before my internship, I've always thought that libraries were just simply these vast sources of knowledge and books, that everyone could enjoy as a community...As the days passed in my internship, I discovered so many wonders in this Library. The opportunities here are practically endless. Youth that gather in YOUmedia can express their general interests - whether in the arts, gaming, 3D printing, fashion - virtually anything. It truly amazes me how much the libraries in Chicago have caught up with the demand." - Diana
"My Library plays a large role in not only offering children a space to learn while remaining safe within our neighborhood, but also bringing together community members. Many of the parents of the children who participate in the Summer Learning Challenge, and related programs, have become friends through this opportunity. The adult book discussion is also another example of adults coming together in our neighborhood to not only discuss literature, but make friendships." - Emily
These teens are so insightful...and deep!
Please share a story from this week...
“Navigating. So, I was getting lost on purpose so I could learn how to find my way around the library. The security guard actually pointed out how he saw me do this regularly and I thought that was pretty funny.” -Diovion
