Two-Factor Authentication or Password Manager, What Is Your Choice?
Remembering all the passwords you have is very difficult. One of the ways to avoid the situation is keeping the same password for all the resources we use to access. Password managers are a better option. But at the end of the day, they hide all your credentials behind a master password. And for users, keeping this master password becomes very important because it is a gateway to all of your valuable accounts and data. That is why the master passwords attract hackers.
The truth is that no password is unhackable, no matter, how strong it is. If you type “how to hack passwords” in the search engines, you will find thousands of ways to do that. Anyone with basic programming knowledge can easily hack your master password. If you are not adding anything extra, hackers should make you really worried.
To save themselves from the situation, many people implemented two-factor authentication on their online resources.
How is it different from the password managers?
From the security point of view, password managers are insecure. All the accounts are dependent on one single password. But in two-factor authentication, along with a password, there is an extra layer of protection. There are many factors that are considered as the second-factor. This second layer is impossible for hackers to hack. Even if your password is being hacked, the second layer of protection is there to protect your services. It acts like a hard nut to crack. This makes the whole system secure.
But in the terms of convenient, for most of us, 2FA is inconceivable. It is not convenient to encounter the second factor each time when we have to access the services. We have to enter some unique codes each time to get access. Additionally, the process costs time.
But always remember, a little inconvenience can save you from big troubles. The choice is yours.
