You are the rust caught in my chest, scraping every breath out of my lungs.

I breathe in every memory, every bit of every moment with you, until I’m so full of your twilight that the sun within me collapses leaving stars along its wake, scattering across my palms and meeting your vast jet black sky, the constellations along your spine every word, every breath we’ve shared with every peppermint kiss, drawing poetry out of our lungs. You are the fallen autumn leaves, the soft crunch of freshly fallen slow under high boots, the sweet high of the scent of cinnamon muffins, the ebb and flow of the waves under my feet.

You mean the world to me.

And not in some cheesy way.

You mean the rough oceans crashing against each other and the soft crackling of thunder. You mean the high tides and the low tides, the pull of the moon every night, the rippling midnight fumes against the gravel.

Without you, the world would feel empty.

You never let your anxiety get in the way of all you wanted to achieve and I’ll always look up to you for it.

Even though you had days where you couldn’t escape your black hole bed, you revved your engines, stood your ground, used up every last bit of fuel that you had and pulled away from its gravity.

I’ll always look up to you for being this tough. This kind.

I’ll always love you for the lines on your palms mapping their way across the planet and for the twinkle in your soft melted chocolate eyes.

I’ll always love you for your highs and your lows, and I’m definitely getting you high the next time we go on a beach and you sing ‘Can’t help falling in love with you’ to me with the waves rippling against our feet with our toes in the sand.

I’ve always known darkness. With you, I finally know light.

I love you for everything that you are, and will ever be.
