isamu and his home world ( basically rewriting garnet's entire backstory, and major leaks below for acheron's backstory and for the world mentioned in the 2.1 planar ornament set, izumo )
in izumo, the way of the sword was highly revered and swordsmen were treated with a high amount of honor. despite izumo being highly advanced, the concept of samurais maintaining peace still were a prominent part of society. growing up in a renowned samurai family, isamu desired more than anything than to make his family proud and to continue to bring pride to the unabara name. as it turned out, isamu was a prodigy in swordplay, much to his parents and younger brother's delight. life continued in this idyllic vein into his teenage years, until the yaoyorozu no kami ( eight million gods ) showed up.
despite the best efforts of the people of izumo, there was and is little a human can do to combat the brutal onslaught of gods. isamu and his parents had defended their home with all their might, while isamu's younger brother yujiro worked on the back lines as a medic. even in the face of certain annihilation, the people of izumo never gave up even as the fought in the never ending rain. after seeing his parents be cut down in front of him, yujiro was the sole reason that isamu continued to fight. in a single opening, isamu was pinned down and helpless as he watched one of the gods kill his brother in front of him. in blind grief and sorrow, he had killed the gods and crawled over to his brother, yujiro dying and whispering his final words into his ear. isamu himself would've fought until his last breath if it wasn't for his brother forcing him to leave with the last survivors and to abandon both his family and his homeland.
as he was ushered onto an escape ship with his birthright sword, isamu would sat there broken as he left his family's bodies to float in the rising waters. empty eyes watched out the window as the planet was cleaved into two, the gods finally ending their reign of terror with the destruction of the planet. that day, the boy known as isamu died on the neon dyed rain puddles on izumo next to his brother.
from there, the survivors found themselves in the hands of the ipc where they underwent a "procedure" that erased them of all memories of izumo and what happened there. isamu would've had his memories wiped too were it not for a cold, lifeless robotic voice ringing in his mind: are you satisfied with forgetting ? feigning memory loss, isamu would continue to work and live under the ipc for the following years before being promoted to one of the ten stonehearts and obtaining garnet as his new name at the age of twenty.
for the past six years, garnet has served as the head of the department of strategic implementation of protective services, travelling from world to world assisting them in maintaining, creating, and enforcing protection protocols on planets. he takes the occasional bodyguard contract for important people the ipc wants protected, though this comes at exorbitant prices ( for which garnet only receives a fifth ). while he remains loyal to the ipc for now, garnet has every intention to leave to get revenge on the gods who destroyed his life and home world.
