Oh wow the bishie boy anime might not actually be half bad.
Oh haha never mind.
Alright, so Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle. I’m not into the character designs. Which isn’t a surprise for me whatsoever, I’m not really into bishie anime boys in the first place and these rainbow hair heterochromia dudes aren’t an exception.
But the visuals outside of those designs, I actually quite like.
Using this image as an example, a lot of the show’s backgrounds are like, fairly grungy, and I think it looks cool, it’s what you’d want for a rap battle anime and I respect that.
Now all of the actual rap battles come in the form of these, pretty much just music videos honestly. And they’re pretty fun! The visual effects are so over the top that the actual video quality is suffering for it, which is purely the fault of the encode but it just goes to show how much fun the videos are. Pictures don’t really do them justice, they’ve just got a lot of fun motion and great effects and nice lyric integration and all that stuff. Unfortunately uses 3D models for the characters and they look pretty bad, but this is basically an idol anime so that’s not surprising.
As for the actual music, the rap parts can be pretty good, particularly in the OP. Instrumentals have pretty much all been kinda poppin’ and the various boys can all rap pretty well. Unfortunately a few of the songs did actually just devolve into normal singing at some point, really drilling home that this is basically an idol anime, but like, whatever. Also I wasn’t huge on every character voice, pink boy in particular was grating as hell.
And then speaking of characters, I wanna give a quick shout to the group names, because they’re all stupid. Except from Matenro which means nothing to me. But Buster Bros!!!, Fling Posse and MAD TRIGGER CREW are wild. I actually don’t mind that at all though, because the type of shit that real rappers call themselves is so wild anyway that these names fit in fine. As for the characters, I don’t really like any of them. They’re all pretty much exactly what I expected, complete one-note pretty boy gimmicks for straight women and gay men to both fawn over and ship themselves with. Really didn’t care about them.
So I mean, pretty good in some aspects, not great in others. I wouldn’t really call it a pleasant surprise but it was better than I expected. However, it’s still fujo shit! Why did I get anon hate for calling it that? Why was that anon out here like “oh you must not care about other people because you called this anime fujo shit” like fucking hello? The one female character is called Otome!
Like, are you insane? Am I wrong to call this fujo shit? Am I being offensive? In my mind I’m just calling it how I see it, this anime and the rainbow coloured pretty boys exist to sell character merch and music, so what? You don’t need to take offense to me calling it fujo shit for that! Bear in mind that I’m a moeshit guy! This would be something I’d be unconditionally into if everyone was a cute girl instead of a pretty boy, if you told me a show like that was yuri bait moeshit I wouldn’t argue with you! Why you gotta be so fuckin accusatory of me for saying the same thing in the reverse? Sm fucking h.
Anyway yeah I’ll keep watching the show.

Today I had incredibly bad body image. I hate finding out my weight. It's weird how you can go from being generally indifferent to my body to boom oh now a number is attached to it and I feel inadequate. Suddenly I'm looking around and seeing everyone as half my size.
So that's fun.
But the good news is I'm not acting on it.
And I have a feeling it will ease up again.
