The Umbrella Academy characters ranked in order of purity
Agnes: Just wanted to make donuts and love Hazel.
Ben: A good brother who stuck with Klaus through all of his addiction struggles. Deserved better, like most of these characters.
Eudora: Just tried to do her job. Tried to follow the rules. Cared about Diego and his family.
Klaus: Went through probably the most intense trauma of any of the kids, which lasted into his adulthood, but still tried to help where he could. Saved Luther at the expense of his own life, cared about Vanya when Luther locked her up. Tried to help many of his siblings at various points despite how terrible they were to him. Got clean so he could see the love of his life. Pushed through his fear of his power to talk to Hazel and Cha-Cha's victims. Flawed, but tried his best.
Diego: Kind of a dick, but loved his mom and was one of the only characters to show Klaus any kind of caring. Used reckless methods, but cared about his city and his girlfriend. Also loved his mom and made hard choices concerning her and stuck up for Vanya when Luther was locking her up.
Number Five: Also kind of a dick, but justified by many years of isolation and grooming to be an assassin. Loved his family. Also showed Klaus some level of caring on one occasion. Actively tried to save the world, especially where his family was concerned.
Grace: Just wanted to look after her kids, didn't have the autonomy to help them, only did what she was programmed to do. Neutral.
Allison: Clearly had used her powers for evil, including to get her career, make someone fall in love with her, and even control her child. Also, her incestuous relationship with Luther is gross. Still, she tried to be a good sister to Vanya and owned up to her mistakes.
Hazel: Killed multiple people and tortured others, but showed some remorse and let multiple would-be victims go. Ultimately just wanted to love Agnes and be happy.
Vanya: Yes, was treated badly as a child and never taught to use her powers, but also actively chose to kill someone and tried to kill Allison. Also, that pesky ending-the-world thing. Being left out as a child did not justify her murderous later decisions.
Luther: Self-centered and a blind follower. Only cared about things that directly affected him. Choked out Vanya, carried on an incestuous relationship with Allison. Repeatedly insulted and undermined Klaus, along with choking and hitting him, asking a newly-sober Klaus for drugs, and leaving Klaus in a club after he died saving Luther's life. The worst of the Hargreeves children.
Pogo: Was an adult during the kids' childhood and knew everything that happened to them, but never tried to help them and repeatedly lied to them. Even when they were adults, he withheld key information from them and played an active part in their manipulation.
Cha-Cha: A murderous assassin. Tried to kill Hazel, tortured Klaus, killed Eudora, and a million other things.
Reginald Hargreeves: Manipulated and abused all his kids. Sent Luther to the moon but didn't read his notes, made Vanya feel powerless and drugged her so she would be, manipulated Allison to use her powers on her sister, locked Klaus in a mausoleum even though he knew it would be terrifying with his particular power set, treated Grace unkindly, and a million other things. The only reason he's not in last place is because of a few scattered moments of caring.
Leonard Peabody: A killer who manipulated a vulnerable Vanya and indirectly caused the end of the world. The worst.
