Steve Aoki: 'No doubt' me and Louis will release more music
Kev Geoghegan 8 Feb 2017
American producer and DJ Steve Aoki says he has no doubt that he will release more music with One Direction's Louis Tomlinson.
The pair collaborated on the track Just Hold On - which was released just before Christmas.
Aioki, who is the subject of a Grammy-nominated Netflix documentary I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, admits he had no idea how big Louis' other band were before he started working with him in the months following 1D's announcement of the hiatus last year
"When we started working in studio, I loved their music but I didn’t know that much about the band, I didn't know about their fandom, about the whole culture that surrounds them and how massive that was, and he never brought it up.
When we debuted the song on The X Factor and when the song came out, that's when I realised this was massive, this wasn't just a small section of fans, this was an institution, like an army of fans."
And the DJ, who has upcoming projects with rappers including US chart-topper Migos, says he is determined the collaboration won't be a one-off.
"Me and Louis bonded over the song and worked quite heavily through 2016 and we have a few ideas that we're brewing in the process and it's very easy to get in the studio and come up with more ideas with him.
"He's a great guy to work with, there's no doubt that me and Louis will be putting out more music in the future. We dropped this on the world unexpectedly and it worked in our favour, so I think the next project that we do will be like that.
"We want to surprise people again."
